Some Jersey Shore schools, citing the surging cases of COVID-19 or an impending snow storm expected to drop up to 7 inches of snow in southern Ocean County, are delaying or canceling school on Monday.As of Sunday afternoon, the New Jersey Department of Health reported 29,740 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infections across the state, of which 2,086 cases were reported in Monmouth County. In Ocean County, 1,476 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported.  Gov. Phil Murphy also declared a State of Emergency for five counties, including Ocean County, in advance of the winter storm.BarnegatBarnegat Schools will be closed Monday in advance of the snow storm, Superintendent Brian Latwis said on Twitter. Officials cited the winter storm and time needed to track cases of COVID-19 among students and staff as reasoning for the closure.JacksonThe Jackson School District announced a two-hour delayed opening on Monday because of “significant staff shortages” due to COVID-19 infections. The delayed opening would give district officials time to make arrangements for staff absences, according to the schools’ website.
