LLOYD, N.Y. — Lloyd Town Justice Terry B. Elia agreed to be censured for making inappropriate LinkedIn posts and for serving as a “peer support member” for an Ulster County Sheriff’s Office team, according to the state Commission on Judicial Conduct. “A judge must be and appear impartial, or public confidence in the integrity of the courts may be compromised,” commission Administrator Robert H. Tembeckjian said in a statement. “Extracurricular alignments with law enforcement entities, even in a good cause, can be problematic. So, too, must a judge avoid partisan politics, except when running for judicial office.” In a determination dated Sept. 28, and made public Friday, the commission found Elia should be disciplined for making inappropriate LinkedIn posts and for serving as a “peer support member” of the sheriff’s Critical Incident Stress Management Team, according to a press release. Elia agreed to the censure, the release said. According to the commission’s determination, Elia was served with a formal written complaint dated April 4, which contained two charges.
