Long Beach Yacht Club to double size of clubhouse after Coastal Commission approval

The Long Beach Yacht Club’s clubhouse will soon double in size, as its long-awaited remodel and expansion received approval from the California Coastal Commission, with LBYC committing to use the expanded facility to support the local community. After years of planning, this project will add more than 20,000 square feet to the clubhouse, 6201 Appian Way, including constructing a new three-story building with a pool, pool deck and other amenities, all of which the commission OK’d on Thursday, Aug. 14. The Long Beach Yacht Club’s lease has been extended through 2050, and club officials said they want to modernize its aging 1960s facilities to meet the needs of members and the broader public. The club will also be a backdrop to the 2028 Summer Olympics. While the remodel and expansion project was largely supported, there were some union workers and environmental advocates who had concerns about public access and impacts on parking and wildlife in the area.
