(WRGB) — A man facing seven criminal charges in a New York state highway crash that killed a young student has pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide, and the other six charges were dropped.Vasu Laroiya, 24, had pleaded not guilty to charges that included second-degree murder, aggravated vehicular homicide, DWI, and manslaughter.On Memorial Day weekend, 2022, he was driving his Tesla while under the influence, and he rear-ended 22-year-old Katryn Fisher, a student at State University of New York at Albany, causing her Honda to crash into a guardrail on Interstate 87, north of Albany.Fisher’s car burst into flames and she was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.Laroiya admitted, as part of his plea agreement, that he drove recklessly at speeds “reaching 156 mph while intoxicated and using his cell phone to make a Snapchat video,” when he drove into the back of Fisher’s car.He also admitted to having a prior alcohol-related conviction.Laroiya could get 25 years in prison when he’s sentenced next month.
