Man sentenced for child sex crimes – KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — A 39-year-old local man will spend the next year and a half in state prison on charges related to child sex crimes. According to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, Anthony Nicholas Wheeler pleaded guilty on Monday to first-degree online sexual corruption of a child and luring a minor. The charges stem from a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office investigation in March, after deputies received a report that a man was contacting a teenager via Snapchat. The man, later identified as Wheeler, reportedly told a 16-year-old that her age didn’t matter to him. When the conversation became sexual, the teen stopped responding. A detective then continued the conversation using the teen’s Snapchat account. Wheeler was arrested when he arrived at Lava Lanes, expecting to meet the girl. The DA’s office says Wheeler received the maximum sentence allowed under Oregon law due to his lack of prior criminal history. He will also be required to register as a sex offender, submit to HIV and DNA testing, and serve three years of post-prison supervision. © 2025 KOBI-TV NBC5.
