Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta has listed in a report the actions it took against bad content on both its social media platforms in May in India. The bad content is nearly 25 million in number and includes sections such as spam, adult nudity and sexual activity, hate speech, violence and incitement, among others. In its monthly report in compliance with the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, the company said that it purged such content across 13 policies for Facebook and 12 policies for Instagram between May 1-31.The company said it received complaints about such content via pre-established channels. These include pre-established channels for specific violations, self-remediation flows where they can download their data, avenues to address account hacked issues etc. The company also took into account the orders received from Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC).Bad content reports received for FacebookAccording to Meta, Facebook received 16,995 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism, and we responded to 100% of these reports.
