Mets expect Rich Hill to make team debut Sunday

NEW YORK — The first-place Mets will have their newest acquisition take to the hill this weekend, according to plans revealed by manager Luis Rojas. Rich Hill, who the Mets acquired Friday from the Tampa Bay Rays, is expected to make his Mets debut on Sunday in the finale of an interleague series with the Toronto Blue Jays.Rojas told reporters on Saturday afternoon that the plan currently is for Hill to fly to New York and throw a ball in practice before Saturday’s game. That would lead to Hill making his debut and the 41-year old pitching for his 11th different team a day later.”If that happens, then probably we can be comfortable announcing him as our starter for tomorrow,” said Rojas.David Peterson fractures foot in freak injuryThe Mets’ pitching rotation was suffering from a series of injuries already, so an additional injury to one of the existing ailments was damaging news for the team. Starter David Peterson was placed on the 60-day IL while already rehabbing an oblique strain suffered earlier in the month. Unrelated from his rehab, Peterson has a Jones fracture of his fifth metatarsal on his right foot, suffered after Friday’s win over Toronto at Citi Field.”I had…
