MITCHELL — A 19-year-old Mitchell man was sentenced Tuesday morning to seven years in prison for distributing and possessing child sexual abuse material. Max Greger, who was 18 when the offenses occurred, pleaded guilty in July to one Class 3 felony charge of distributing child sexual abuse material and two Class 4 felony charges of possessing child sexual abuse material. Prosecutors requested a harsh sentence, arguing Greger is a danger to the community. Defense attorney Richard Rylance disagreed, describing Greger as a “gentle soul” and pointing to his difficult childhood. Rylance said Greger’s mother struggled with addiction while his father worked long hours to provide for the family. Greger also was a recipient of the Build Dakota Scholarship and had been accepted to a local college to pursue a degree in Automation Controls/SCADA. “I don’t think he has a criminal mind,” Rylance said.
