Plans to create a new property at a town’s golf club have been approved by Rossendale Council. An application, submitted by Connolly’s, was made to develop a two-bedroom house with its own curtilage, access, parking and services, at Bacup Golf Club, which would be attached to the clubhouse. The current building has historically been used for the club’s steward. Developers say that the development of the property, which includes the building of a new porch area, will not impact the current clubhouse, course and any associated community value. Bacup Golf Club, in Maden Road, has been in existence since 1910, providing a nine-hole course set 1,000 feet up, with panoramic views across the Rossendale valley and the Pennines. A planning statement said: “The building is currently a composite planning unit comprising a primary clubhouse function with a residential component historically occupied by the club steward. “This is not a loss of a sports/community facility; the clubhouse remains and is operationally safeguarded. “Instead, the change improves the club’s flexibility and financial resilience while delivering one additional open-market dwelling through re-use of an existing building—consistent with national support for sustainable rural leisure and local services and re-use of existing buildings adjacent to
