The scam, according to police, targets children between 16 and 18 years old and sees them offered money for allowing their bank account to be used for moving criminal funds. The basis is that criminals use the victim’s account to move funds that are used or have been gained from criminal activity like fraud or even more serious crimes like terrorism and human trafficking. This involves children in criminal activity and could see them saddled with massive debts and at risk of criminal action against them. A letter from Avon and Somerset Police, distributed across the county, outlined how the scam targets children and how it could land them in hot water if they do not recognise the danger signs.
