A California couple whose son died because of an overdose from drugs he bought off Snapchat is sharing their plea to parents in hopes of saving a life.”This was a homicide, and we miss him,” Sam Chapman said. On Feb. 7, Dr. Laura Berman and Sam Chapman, lost their 16-year-old son, Sammy, to an overdose.”We’re taking it one day at a time. It’s not easy healing from the loss of a child,” Chapman said.”It’s not something you get over. I think it’s literally just a new lifestyle,” Berman said. They told WISN 12 News’ Diana Gutierrez that curiosity sparked Sammy’s encounter with drugs.It started with him ordering a dropoff at his Santa Monica home from a “drug menu” on Snapchat.”It was poison. It was fentanyl, and it was not what he thought he was buying,” Chapman said. “It didn’t occur to either of us, with him home during a pandemic, that he could have access to drugs and no idea that they could be delivered to the house like a pizza,” Berman said.
