A community sports club could get a revamp and extension if new plans are approved by the council. Mr P. White from Haslingden St Mary’s Community Sports Club, lodged an application with Rossendale Council in September seeking to redevelop St Mary’s RC Football Club on South Shore Street in Haslingden. If approved, the club will gain a replacement artificial pitch, an extension to the clubhouse, additional training pitch, additional parking, spectator stand, portable changing facilities and additional flood lighting. Haslingden St Mary’s is a not-for-profit community football club which has existed on the site at South Shore Street for many years. It has two main football pitches and a club house and runs 34 teams and involves 480 footballers aged from four to 40 years old. The 400 juniors include both boys and girls. A planning statement submitted alongside the application reads: “The pitches are kept in immaculate condition, but they often become waterlogged, meaning that games must be postposed on a regular basis. “Therefore, the proposal is to lay one of the two pitches with artificial grass and to improve the drainage underneath.
