Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel and his wife, model Miranda Kerr, gifted $550 million to the non-profit, Undue Medical Debt, to pay off medical bills for over 250,000 Californians. The couple shared the news on social media. “One of the reasons we wanted to share this directly is because if you happen to receive a letter in the mail letting you know your medical debt has been forgiven, we want you to know it’s real,” Kerr said. “Medical debt can be a burden that lasts long after a health crisis has passed,” Spiegel said. Marisa Clemente, who serves as vice-president of philanthropy for the non-profit, called the donation “transformative.” “For us, we think that, you know, nobody should have to choose between their health and paying their bills, and no one should go broke just because they got sick, right?” she said. “It’s the one debt that people don’t ask for, and it’s something that people cannot control.” Clemente added that those who had their debt paid off will get their letters in mid-July. More than 17,000 people in L.A. County are expected to get those letters. Follow KNX News 1070 AM Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | TikTok
