South Bend is on its way to a cleaner, greener future – ABC57

Posted: Aug 23, 2023 4:38 PM EDT SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Seven non-profit organizations have installed solar projects in efforts to create a cleaner, greener future. The Energy Assistance Solar Saving Initiative (EASSI) provides subsidized energy assessments, grants and low interest loans to community organizations for solar projects. Non-profits who have taken part in it are: The Beacon Resource CenterLa Casa de AmistadParamount Schools of ExcellenceNear Northwest NeighborhoodThe Clubhouse of St. Joseph CountyUnity GardensEASSI anticipates three more installs by the end of the year. “We are gratefully saving $400 to $500 monthly on utility bills due to solar panels,” said Tess Olson, Executive Director, the Clubhouse of St. Joseph County. EASSI aims to provide over 500 kilowatts of solar energy.Alex Bazan, Director of Sustainability, says, “that’s equivalent to saving over 48,800 gallons of gasoline from being consumed each year.”
