An “isolated” man sent a picture of his crotch to who he believed was a young boy on Snapchat. Mark Waughman, 56, turned to alcohol and social media during a lonely time in his life, Southampton Crown Court heard. This led him to download messaging app Kik where he struck up a conversation with ‘Alfie’, a police officer posing as a 12-year-old boy. The pair frequently chatted for three weeks using Kik and Snapchat, prosecutor Gaylene Coles said. She told the court: “The conversation began on September 1, 2023, where Alfie quite clearly said he was 12, to which the defendant said he was ‘way older’. “They later moved to Snapchat where Waughman asked the boy for nude pictures of himself. “Waughman sent a photo of an adult male wearing white boxer shorts, then sent two more similar images.” The undercover police officer then sent a photo of a clothed boy to the defendant who asked him to “take it out and send a picture”.
