If you avoid doing this, then you are neglecting your duties. They call it a copycat league for this exact reason.Most NFL staffs have coaching assistants or data jobs specifically designated to looking around the NFL and taking concepts working for other offenses and pitching to apply them to the current structure in-house. The Browns have plenty of others to look at around the league who run a similar offensive system and this can lend to some great ideas. Kevin Stefanski himself has noted this exact thought many times: “That is how the NFL works. When a play shows up, and it hurts your defense [or offense], it is going to show up the next week in a copycat league.”But just stealing schemes from those around the league does not automatically equal successful plays.
