A heated debate has arisen over the apparent transformation of a popular Welsh holiday destination into an “Instagram island”. People on social media have expressed concerns about excessive tourism, housing shortages, the rise in holiday homes and lets, and the decline of the Welsh language in Anglesey, Gwynedd. Long-time residents have said the island – called Ynys Môn in Welsh – feels like a “very different place” compared to just 10 to 15 years ago, reports North Wales Live. But well-meaning visitors to Anglesey have hit back at the “venom” and “ill-feeling” from locals, contemplating whether “it’s time to just to stay home”. One local woman in her early 30s summed up feelings among locals, writing on Facebook: “Ynys Môn feels like a very different place even compared to 10-15 years ago. I have no doubt that most people planning to move here do so with good intentions, and don’t do so with the plan of stamping out what was here before.
