Published 12:05 pm Sunday, October 4, 2026 Three Oxford residents were among 101 new attorneys who took their oaths to practice law during two ceremonies Oct. 1 at the Mississippi Supreme Court in Jackson. James Lewis Riley, John Ross Swaim and Ashlyn Breanna Tracy, all Oxford residents and graduates of the University of Mississippi School of Law, were among the newest members of the Mississippi Bar. The ceremonies marked the beginning of the new attorneys’ legal careers, with state Supreme Court justices and bar leaders encouraging the graduates to uphold the principles of professionalism, civility, honesty, integrity and fairness. The University of Mississippi School of Law and Mississippi Christian University School of Law each had 42 graduates represented at the ceremonies. Another 17 graduates earned their law degrees from 12 out-of-state law schools. The new attorneys were predominantly Mississippi residents, with 83 coming from communities across the state, from Corinth to the Gulf Coast. Eighteen graduates reside in other states.
