Father-of-four Dylan Poynton, 27, pleaded guilty before Judge Kenneth Connolly at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm to another man at a residence in River Village Athlone, Co. Westmeath on October 13, 2022. Defence counsel Andrea Callan told the court her client, of Castlegrove, Castlepollard, Westmeath, was already awaiting sentence before Judge Keenan Johnson for another matter. The court had already requested a pre-sanction probation report. She asked that the assault also be considered by the Probation Service in its assessment of Poynton, and for this case to go back to the same date. Judge Connolly agreed to the defence request and adjourned the assault case for sentencing until July 9, when Poynton’s car-hijacking case is to be finalised. He also directed the preparation of a victim impact statement. Evidence of the assault has yet to be heard on the assault charge.
