US President Donald Trump has dropped his threat to impose tariffs on European countries that opposed his plans to gain control of Greenland and said he would not use force to seize the territory. In a social media post on Wednesday, Trump said the planned tariffs would be suspended after talks with Nato secretary-general Mark Rutte produced what he described as a “framework” for future co-operation on Greenland and the wider Arctic region.
