(ABC 6 News)–U.S. Rep. Brad Finstad sent a letter to the Minnesota Department of Education asking for a review of how certain instructional materials are being used in Rochester Public Schools. In a letter to state education leaders, Finstad raised concerns about curriculum materials connected to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Learning for Justice initiative, saying he wants more transparency on how the resources are incorporated into classrooms. Finstad said, “Our public schools in Rochester, and across the country, serve families from diverse political, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Parents and communities should have trust in their children’s public school curriculum. I’m calling on the Minnesota Department of Education to provide transparency and clear accounting of SPLC’s influence on the educational experience of our Rochester students.” The Minnesota Department of Education has not yet responded publicly to the request.
