UC Riverside recently welcomed dignitaries from more than 21 countries as part of a visit by the Los Angeles Consular Corps showcasing the campus’s growing role in global research, innovation, and economic development. The July 17 visit, organized by UCR’s Office of Research and Economic Development, or RED, brought together consular representatives, regional officials, faculty, and international business leaders. Los Angeles Consular Corps Dean Zaib Shaikh, Riverside Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson, and Riverside City Councilmember Steven Robillard were among the attendees. The convening worked to strengthen international partnerships, promote foreign investment, and to advance UCR’s role in making Southern California a rising hub for global innovation. “UC Riverside is uniquely positioned to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and government on an international scale,” said Rodolfo Torres, UCR’s vice chancellor for research and economic development. “This visit reflects our commitment to connecting our region with global opportunities.”The day included discussions on how universities can anchor innovation and serve as gateways for international companies seeking to expand into the U.S. market.
