Russia holds 2,500 Ukrainian prisoners of war – reports Ukraine’s deputy prime minister Iryna Vereshchuk claimed this afternoon that Russia has captured civilians alongside soldiers amid the war in Ukraine.It is alleged that Moscow has an estimated 2,500 Ukrainian prisoners.Ukraine also claims Russia refused to return civilians in its latest swap.Kyiv and Moscow have exchanged prisoners several times since the war began on 24 February.In the last, on 21 September, Russia released 215 Ukrainians.Andriy Yermak, the head of the president’s office, said Ukraine received these prisoners in exchange for the release of Viktor Medvedchuk.Mr Medvedchuk, a friend of Vladimir Putin, is now living in exile.
