NATCHITOCHES, La. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros volleyball team is kicking off the final week of the regular season Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. match against the Northwestern State (NSU) Demons at Prather Coliseum. The Vaqueros (18-7, 13-1 Southland Conference) are riding a program-best winning streak of 12 matches, which is the seventh-longest active winning streak in Div. I women’s volleyball. The Demons (1-27, 0-14 SLC), on the other hand, have lost 27 in a row and have only won one set in conference action. Head-to-Head History • UTRGV is 6-2 all-time against the Demons in a series dating back to 1995. • UTRGV has won four in a row against Northwestern State, including the first round match in Edinburg on Oct. 2. The Vaqueros picked up a 3-0 sweep. Last Time Out • UTRGV earned its seventh Southland Conference sweep with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-23) victory over Houston Christian on Saturday, extending the winning streak to a program-best 12 matches. Sophomore outside hitter Martina Franco had her fifth double-double with 10 kills, 10 digs, three blocks and two aces.
