The Rainbow Wāhine basketball team defeated UC Irvine 59-48 Saturday to become the 2022 Big West conference tournament champs and punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament.The Wāhine’s win was bolstered by a big second half, as they would outscore the Anteaters 37-22. An aggressive inside game provided many opportunities that the Wāhine took advantage of. They would rack up 22 points inside the paint while also finding their way to the free-throw line where they shot 24-of-28.Head coach Laura Beeman was thankful of her team and the fan support they’ve received. She said that aligning to their goals and staying truly committed to celebrating each other helped the team capture the second Big West tournament title in her 10-year career at Hawai’i. “It’s an amazing season to see how these kids have come together,” Beeman said. “Thank you Hawai’i, this one’s for you.
