Woman (27) robbed, gang-raped after falling for fake WhatsApp job offer in Harare

POLICE have warned members of the public against job offers on social media after a 27-year-old woman from Gokwe was allegedly robbed and gang-raped in Harare’s Kuwadzana suburb. The incident occurred on September 14, 2026. Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway. “The ZRP urges members of the public to exercise caution when responding to unsolicited job offers or engaging with strangers on social media and to verify the identities and credentials of individuals offering employment or other services,” said Commissioner Nyathi. “The warning follows a robbery and rape incident that occurred in Kuwadzana on September 14, 2026, involving a 27-year-old woman from Gokwe who had been offered a job by strangers through a WhatsApp group.” According to police, the woman travelled to Harare after receiving the job offer and was instructed to proceed to Kuwadzana. “She was allegedly robbed of her valuables and gang raped by three men,” said Commissioner Nyathi. He said police are conducting comprehensive investigations to identify and apprehend the suspects. Police urged job seekers to verify all employment offers and avoid meeting strangers in isolated places.
