I cannot speak for everyone adjusting to the COVID-19 pandemic, but I would say that the crisis has affected American lives in a number of ways, of which there is no “typical” experience. For some folks, their personal spending habits have increased during these challenging times because they want to bring back some sparkle. So they look for a special item that delivers comfort, happiness and maybe even a sense of nostalgia. I recently stood in a long line of shoppers at the Savers thrift store chain on the busy Daniel Webster Highway. Before that, I was looking around the Goodwill store in Hudson. Both stores were crowded not only with shoppers pushing carts full of stuff but generous people waiting in line to drop off donations. I walked out with a pre-loved, large hurricane glass that is open at both ends and flared in the middle. It is designed for placing a large pillar candle inside or even over a brass candlestick for an elegant presentation. It cost me $2.99.
