A historic social media account attributed to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s wife, Rama Duwaji, appears to have been deactivated amid scrutiny over resurfaced posts. Duwaji faced backlash after The Washington Free Beacon reported that, when she was in her teens and early 20s, posts were made using a racial slur and celebrating Palestinian militant actions on X and Tumblr accounts that appeared inactive for some time. While the alleged Tumblr account still appears to be visible online, the X account, which has the username @_RamaDee, seems to have been deactivated. Social media activity on X, viewed by Newsweek, suggests that other users were able to respond to old posts as recently as Thursday. Newsweek was unable to independently verify the accounts belonged to Duwaji, and it’s not clear who deleted the X account. The Washington Free Beacon said it linked the X account to her through facial recognition technology. Newsweek has contacted the New York Mayor’s office, via email outside of normal working hours, for comment. Mamdani has previously stressed that his wife is a “private person” who has never held any elected position or had any official role on his campaign or his city hall.
