Clubhouse

Clubhouse App

Editor's Note: A millennial soundtrack – Hindustan Times

Remember Clubhouse, the app that rose to popularity during the pandemic and offered those of us in lockdown the comfort of listening to another human’s voice? It was packaged as a by-invitation-only social media outlet with supposedly premium, iOS-only access and threatened to shift the social media hierarchy for a while. My go-to on ClubHouse were the Indian music rooms run by second-generation children of immigrants living on the West Coast of the US, and in Canada. These were mostly non-Hindi speaking 20 and 30-somethings who may have never lived in India, but had picked up a bit of our culture second-hand from their parents who had moved reluctantly for a better life.Early in the mornings, India time, when it was late evening in California, these rooms sprung to life, with accented Hindi voices making sure not one raga was out of place. More beautiful than the songs was the attitude: there was sensitive encouragement, order and joy. Quite the change in the world of social media where trolls play a starring role.It is in one of these rooms that I chanced upon Rishab Sharma,  » Read More

Twitch will make it easier for creators to bring guests onto streams – Engadget

Twitch has announced a new feature for creators who want to include other streamers and even viewers on their broadcasts. Up to five guests can join a stream through Guest Star, which works on both desktop and mobile. If a viewer wants to take part in the discussion or ask a question, they can raise a virtual hand and the creator or a moderator may invite them on. This seems to work in a similar fashion to Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces. While the feature is akin to Clubhouse, Twitter Spaces, Spotify Live, Discord Stage Channels et al, Twitch can set itself apart from those services. Guest Star supports live video as well as audio — this is Twitch, after all. The platform says Guest Star is easy for both newcomers and experienced streamers to use and it works with software like OBS and Twitch Studio. However, streamers won't need to use a third-party app to host a broadcast with other participants.  » Read More

Twitch's new Guest Star mode will let anyone turn their stream into a talk show | TechCrunch

Twitch wants to make it easier for creators to pull guests into their livestreams, talk show-style — and everybody gets to be a creator. The company is announcing Guest Star, a new feature that will tie into existing streaming software, allowing stream hosts to bring up to five guests into a stream and swap them in and out fluidly. Through Guest Star, streamers will be able to invite anyone with a Twitch account to hop into a stream from desktop or the Twitch mobile app. Creators can host and manage their guests directly within Twitch Studio or OBS, the tool of choice for many of the app’s more advanced streamers. The feature will launch first to a small, invite-only cluster of Twitch users who are already active in the Just Chatting scene — the booming Twitch category where streamers casually hang out rather than focus on games. By fall, streamers who want to try Guest Star will be able to sign up for a beta and will be granted access on an ongoing basis.  » Read More

Golf: Wiltwyck Golf Club gets new pro, clubhouse manager – Daily Freeman

KINGSTON, N.Y. — Wiltwyck Golf Club has reshaped its senior management team with the hiring of new golf professional Trevor Alexander and the promotion of Eric Atkins to clubhouse manager. Alexander and Atkins have taken completely different paths to Wiltwyck, the Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed golf course that was a private club for 85 years until opening for public play as a semiprivate golf club in 2018. The 41-year-old Alexander was born and raised in Maine and graduated from Wheaton (Mass.) College, where he pitched on the college baseball team. After starting his career in golf working in the bag room at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass., Alexander has been an assistant pro at four New Jersey golf clubs, including the well-respected Forsgate Country Club and Metedeconk National Golf Club. He came to Wiltwyck in mid-April following a four-year stint as the general manager/director of golf at Medford Lakes (N.J.) Country Club. Atkins, who turned 53 on Monday, graduated from Rondout Valley High and SUNY Ulster. Atkins earned a degree from SUNY Oswego in marketing in 1991.  » Read More

Cuyahoga County Council wrong to consider $4M for golf course clubhouse, $0 on rape crisis center

$4 million is teed up for a golf course.I was disgusted to read that Cuyahoga County Council members gave preliminary approval to spend money on a golf course and ignore the needs of individuals that look for help and support at a time in their life when they need the most support. And to Councilman Scott Tuma, who’s lame reason for not supporting the Rape Crisis Center, because the center is not based in his district; shame on you, and the entire council for putting golfers ahead of those who need our help the most.James Kempthorn,BereaNote to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.  » Read More

How To Avoid Hopping on the Wrong Trend – Newsweek

Not all trends are created equal. As anyone who watches the fluctuations in social media platforms carefully will know, some trends develop naturally and others are, shall we say, forced to occur.Part of digital strategy is knowing how to capitalize on social media trends — whether they be viral sensations on an existing platform or the emergence of a new one. A hardworking, diligent digital marketer does not have time to mess around with flash in the pan trends that won't see the end of the month. So here's how you can avoid wasting your time on dead-end trends. All the wrong people are jumping on itMany are familiar with the term "ambulance chasers" — unscrupulous legal aids who follow ambulances to the hospital in hopes of securing a new client so they can make a quick buck off of a lawsuit. In the marketing and social media world, there is a similar phenomenon: trend chasers. Marketers who will hop on literally any new platform or meme the second it comes out of the metaphorical oven.  » Read More

App replaces sleeping pills for insomniacs | The Area News | Griffith, NSW

It's thought about one in 10 Australians have at least mild insomnia at any given time.Insomnia patients should ditch the drugs and sign up to an Australian-designed app to help them improve their sleep patterns. That's according to Britain's National Health Service (NHS), which has recommended Sleepio as a safe and effective sleep therapy treatment - and an alternative to addictive medications like zolpidem and zopiclone. While not yet available to all Australians, people who find it difficult to stay or fall asleep are being urged to ask their GPs about joining a clinical trial that uses the specialised digital therapy program, available through Flinders University."Our previous research has shown that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for insomnia (or 'CBTi') is the most effective treatment for insomnia and Sleepio is a self-administered version of that," says Flinders' Dr Alexander Sweetman from the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health."At present, Sleepio is only available in Australia through a clinical trial so it's important doctors are aware it's an option and patients can be referred to the program and assisted."At the moment 45 GPs are participating in the Australian Sleepio trial and 200 patients have been referred.  » Read More
