Pic: AP Photo/Jeff Roberson Sat, 29 Aug, 2026 - 22:34 Rory McIlroy shot a seven-under round of 63 to surge into contention at the Tour Championship. McIlroy - who started the day tied in 20th - made nine birdies and sits on 10-under in the clubhouse, with leader Ryan Gerard (13-under) still out on the course.   “It’s a unique week because if you look at the scoring, even starting yesterday, there were only like eight or nine shots that spread the field,” said McIlroy. “Obviously, it’s a short field. There’s only 30 players, but it does feel like if you go out and shoot a good score, the leaders, you know, I thought today if I could get like 10 was sort of my target, which is great that I got there.  » Read More

Indoor Golf Club Opens on LA’s Westside in 2026

Stableford, a private golf and wellness club built around indoor simulators rather than fairways, will open its 13,000-square-foot flagship clubhouse in West Los Angeles in late 2026, marking the first new private golf club on the city's Westside in more than 50 years. Located at 2055 S. Barrington Ave. along the Brentwood-Santa Monica corridor, the club is designed to fold golf into the rhythm of a workweek — early mornings, weekday evenings and social nights — rather than the four hours a traditional round demands. Construction is underway. The club takes its name from golf's Stableford scoring system and was developed by co-founders Sanjay Mattela and Drake Walker in response to what they describe as a supply gap in one of the country's most undersupplied golf markets. "It's really a combination of land cost, availability and regulation," Mattela, the club's chief executive, said of the decades-long drought in new Westside clubs. "Building a traditional private golf club on the Westside today would be incredibly difficult." What has changed, he said,  » Read More

Pat Murphy has benched players before, but Cooper Pratt’s was different

Aug. 26, 2026, 6:09 p.m. CT NEW YORK – Pat Murphy, the distributor of nicknames in the Milwaukee Brewers clubhouse, has a moniker in mind that he doesn’t want to go by.  “I’m not trying to be Johnny Hardass,” Murphy said from his office at Citi Field before his team’s game against the New York Mets on Aug. 26.  Outside the doors of the visiting clubhouse across the hall from him, that is indeed his reputation to some, further cemented by his mid-game benching of rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt the night prior. After failing to get a bunt down before a blooper to right in his next at-bat where Pratt took 5.8 seconds to get to first base and didn't try to stretch it into a double, Murphy immediately removed him from the game, a swift decision that had far more layers to it than just that play. It wasn’t the first time Murphy has sat a young Brewers player on the pine – ask Sal Frelick or Caleb Durbin or Tobias Myers or Brandon Sproat or Robert Gasser – but it was the largest spectacle of any of the mid-game yankings yet.   » Read More
