LAFAYETTE, La. — The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is seeking approval for a series of new names at its baseball complex, including honoring legendary Ragin' Cajuns coach Tony Robichaux and major donors Gus and Andrea Rantz. The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors is scheduled to consider the proposals Thursday in Baton Rouge. UL is asking the board to name the baseball stadium complex either "Tony Robichaux Park" or "Robichaux Park." A separate proposal would name the stadium's club area the "Russo Stadium Club." The university is also seeking approval to name its planned baseball clubhouse the "Rantz Family Baseball Performance Center." Ragin Review was the first to report the proposed naming changes. The clubhouse naming would recognize Gus and Andrea Rantz, who donated $2.5 million to the project earlier this year. Louisiana Athletics announced in March that the gift brought fundraising for the clubhouse to more than $5 million toward a $6.5 million goal. Dust has begun to settle inside the Arizona Diamondbacks' organization, for now. The ongoing drama surrounding second baseman Ketel Marte, his unspecified personal matter, unexpected no-show and Restricted List stint has reached as much of a conclusion as could have been expected. Marte, alongside his agent, had a reportedly productive meeting with GM Mike Hazen and manager Torey Lovullo on Thursday. He was moved from the RL to the injured list with inflammation in his knee shortly following. This story clearly had somewhat of an effect on the rest of the team. They were blown out in back-to-back games by the Red Sox following Marte's initial absence, only just managing to salvage what was a massive series finale before heading back to Phoenix. BREESPORT, N.Y. (WENY) — The Chemung County Rod and Gun Club sustained significant damage early Thursday morning after a car crashed into the corner of the building. According to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, Deakahn Colavita, 19, was speeding on Lattabrook Road in Breesport when he lost control on a curve just after 4 a.m., went off the road and struck the clubhouse. Colavita was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Both Colavita and a passenger were injured and transported to the hospital for evaluation. The Sheriff's Office issued several traffic tickets in connection with the incident. The clubhouse has been boarded up following the crash.  » Read More

Four years after a fire destroyed the Tanasi Clubhouse, a new waterfront dining destination is welcoming guests back to Tellico Village. The rebuilt Tanasi Clubhouse includes Tanasi Waterfront Dining, with expanded spaces and updated amenities designed to give people a place to gather, dine and enjoy the waterfront. "This has been four years of a labor of love," said Christine Martinez, director of food and beverage. "This is a beautiful building that we're so excited to welcome guests into, and it's almost like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, so to speak." The rebuilding process allowed Tellico Village to reconsider what it wanted from the space. Marketing and communications officer Beth Kuberka said the original clubhouse was in need of more space. "The kitchen was too small so we knew we wanted it to be bigger," Kuberka said. The $11.6 million rebuild includes more space, modern finishes, private dining and areas for people to gather.
