Yankees move into 1st-place tie with Blue Jays in AL East | theScore.com

by Bryan Mcwilliam Sep 25, 1:51 AM The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox 8-1 and moved into a first-place tie with the Blue Jays in the American League East after Toronto lost to the Boston Red Sox 7-1. The Yankees trailed the Blue Jays by five games for the division lead on Sept. 16, but made up ground after Toronto lost six of its last seven games. Toronto owns the tiebreaker over New York if the two clubs finish the season with identical records. Aaron Judge lead the Yankees' offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with two home runs. His 50th and 51st homers of the campaign made him the fourth player ever with 50 or more round-trippers in four different seasons. "We're just focused on playing our game," Judge told YES Network's Meredith Marakovits postgame. "I think that's been the biggest thing. "We can sit here and check the standings, check the records of other teams, but this is a focused group we've got in this clubhouse.  » Read More

Planning Board asked to allow application to move forward – The Photo News

The Woodbury Villas asked the Woodbury Planning Board, at their Sept. 17 meeting, to consider allowing them to move forward with their next phase of construction. Under the current conditions imposed on the application, the community center would need to be completed before the applicant can receive additional building permits. Planning Board Engineer Natalie Barber confirmed that to move forward, the clubhouse would need to be functioning. He said that while the electrical and plumbing is in, a lot of work still needs to be done. Planning Board Chairperson Christopher Gerver said that a different account was given by the building inspector. Gerver said he was told the applicant doesn’t have any inspections scheduled, and that the only inspection to-date was on the framing. The representative said that not being able to move forward with the next phase of the project has caused significant hardship for the applicant. He asked the board to consider allowing building permits to be issued,  » Read More

Ryder Cup Is Never Easy To Win On The Road. Europe Has Done It Only Four Times

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Rory McIlroy, who became only the sixth player in history to complete the career Grand Slam of majors by winning the Masters, now faces another tall order. McIlroy has been saying for the last few years that winning the Ryder Cup away on the road is the biggest accomplishment in golf. He would know. McIlroy was on the last winning road team in this passionate competition. That was 13 years ago and required so much to go right on the final day in the Chicago suburbs that it became known as the “Miracle at Medinah.” “We weren’t supposed to win in ’12,” McIlroy once said. “Even since then, the home team has won, each time pretty convincingly.” The Americans were coming off a record rout over Europe in 2021 — 19-9 — when they went went to Marco Simone in Italy with hopes of ending 30 years without a road victory. Europe swept the opening session and sailed to a five-point win.  » Read More
