Former Yankees pitcher Lance Lynn defends Aaron Boone — this is what you aren’t seeing

Aaron Boone has been catching all kinds of heat for the Yankees’ recent struggles, but former pitcher Lance Lynn is stepping to the manager’s defense. “If it needs to be addressed, he is addressing it,” the longtime pitcher said Monday on the “Foul Territory” podcast. “He’s not gonna talk through the media, he’s not gonna tell you what’s going on in the clubhouse. He played the game, he played at a very high level. He knows how it works. Whatever happens in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse.” Boone has caught blowback from fans who are frustrated that he has not held his players more accountable after mistakes, but Lynn is certain that the manager is doing his job – behind closed doors. "The more that gets out in New York, the worse it gets." Lance Lynn is positive that Aaron Boone is saying what you want to hear from him behind closed doors. pic.twitter.com/n9rTcO8AVG — Foul Territory (@FoulTerritoryTV) August 4, 2025 “Positive he’s addressing everything that’s going wrong with the players,  » Read More

Miyu Yamashita Of Japan Wins The Women’s British Open For Her First Major Title

PORTHCAWL, Wales (AP) — Miyu Yamashita of Japan captured her first major title Sunday when she withstood a charge by Charley Hull by not making a bogey until the outcome of the Women’s British Open was no longer in doubt. She closed with a 2-under 70 for a two-shot victory. Yamashita holed two big par putts on the back nine at Royal Porthcawl, the last one when Hull had closed to within one shot of the lead. Her final test was the 401-yard 16th, one of the toughest on the course. Yamashita, who turned 24 on Saturday, drilled her drive down the middle and found the green, nearly holing a 45-foot putt. That gave her a three-shot lead with two holes to play. Her final act was a tap-in for par to finish on 11-under 277, and she raised both arms to celebrate. Yamashita wiped away tears as she headed to the scoring trailer. “To be part of such a moment in history is something very, very special,” Yamashita said through an interpreter at the trophy presentation.  » Read More

Boone responds to criticism by Jeter, A-Rod: ‘Comes with the territory’ | theScore.com

by Tom Ruminski Aug 03, 7:58 PM New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes Derek Jeter's and Alex Rodriguez's remarks about the team's recent mental mistakes and struggles were warranted. "Look, we're the Yankees," Boone said Sunday, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. "When we lose games, if it's in and around a mistake, that criticism is fair game. At the end of the day, we have all the pieces to be a really good team. That's on me and all of us to get the most out of that." Boone's comments come after Jeter and Rodriguez called out the Yankees on Saturday following a sloppy loss to the Miami Marlins, which included a baserunning gaffe by Jazz Chisholm Jr. that resulted in a double play. "They make way too many mistakes," Jeter said. "And you can't get away with making that number of mistakes against great teams. It just doesn't happen. They had baserunning mistakes today - you saw (Trent Grisham) getting thrown out at home plate.  » Read More

Byron Buxton looks to be a calming presence in Twins’ clubhouse after a flurry of deadline moves

CLEVELAND — Every time Byron Buxton picked up his phone Thursday afternoon, there was a text message or news ping that one of his Minnesota Twins teammates was being traded. Two days later, Buxton was still trying to take in all the moves the Twins made as the front office made nine trades and turned over nearly 40% of the roster. Even though the All-Star center fielder is on the 10-day injured list with left ribcage inflammation, Buxton joined the Twins in Cleveland for this weekend’s series as the franchise’s clubhouse leader wanted to be there to provide support and be a sounding board for teammates. “I mean ,trading nine guys like that is something that’s not normal, so it was a little bit of a shock for sure,” Buxton said before Saturday’s game. “Right now, obviously, I haven’t processed it. I don’t know who has processed it, but something we’ll talk about a little bit more at the end of the season.” Manager Rocco Baldelli said that having Buxton on the trip was important,  » Read More

Manfred downplays Harper squabble, optimistic about labor deal | theScore.com

by Bryan Mcwilliam Aug 01, 7:06 PM Jemal Countess / Getty Images Entertainment / Getty Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said a recent dispute with Philadelphia Phillies star first baseman Bryce Harper wasn't significant, and the two of them resolved the issue. "I think more has been made out of this than needs to be made out of it," Manfred said, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers. "Bryce expressed his views. At the end of the meeting, we shook hands and went our separate ways. Not all that significant." During Manfred's recent meeting with Phillies players, Harper reportedly told the commissioner to "get the f--k out of our clubhouse" if he wanted to discuss the idea of MLB implementing a salary cap. "It was an individual picking a particular way to express himself, and I don't think you need to make more out of it than that," Manfred said. Players are opposed to a salary cap, and concerns have increased that a lockout might occur when the collective bargaining agreement expires after the 2026 season.  » Read More

Clubhouse chatter: The sports video games the Padres grew up on – San Diego Union-Tribune

Jeremiah Estrada is a gamer. Yes, that means he’s a guy you can call on with no outs and the bases loaded and expect him to keep the game in check. But he’s also the sort of gamer who wheels his PlayStation 5 from city to city in a suitcase for downtime in hotel rooms. He is Exhibit A of what happens when millennials and zoomers become Major League Baseball players. Estrada excels between the lines, but he did not watch as much baseball as he played. For real and virtually. He poured hours in the “junkyard” mini-game into the Manny Ramirez-adorned EA Sports”MVP Baseball 2005″ as a kid. An early highlight of his professional career arrived in May 2024, when Sony San Diego Studio boosted his virtual card in “MLB The Show” from a 57 to a 99 for five days after he set an Expansion Era record with strikeouts in 13 straight plate appearances. Estrada could not wait to use a usable Estrada in the game’s live mode.  » Read More

Carlos Correa is reuniting with the Astros after a trade from the Twins, AP source says

Posted Jul 31, 2025 05:26:24 PM. Last Updated Jul 31, 2025 06:02:04 PM. HOUSTON (AP) — Carlos Correa is returning to Houston, giving the Astros a needed jolt for their infield with a stunning trade from the Minnesota Twins ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline, according to a person with direct knowledge of the deal. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the trade hadn’t been announced. Additional terms of the swap weren’t immediately available. Correa spent his first seven years in Houston, where he became one of the most beloved players in franchise history, helping the team to six playoff appearances, three American League pennants and its first World Series title in 2017 — a championship tainted by a sign-stealing scandal. The top pick in the 2012 amateur draft and 2015 AL Rookie of the Year was part of the homegrown core that helped the Astros go from the league’s laughingstock to perennial contenders. Correa, who waived his no-trade clause, has exclusively played shortstop in his 11-year major league career but will almost certainly move to third base for the AL West leaders with shortstop Jeremy Peña close to returning from the injured list.
