League of Women Voters Files Brief Opposing Executive Order Attacking Birthright Citizenship

Yesterday, the League of Women Voters , NAACP , and Equal Justice Society filed an amicus brief urging a federal court to invalidate an illegal executive order issued by President Trump seeking to revoke birthright citizenship. This brief, identical to one filed in April by the same organizations in Washington v. Trump , is being filed in New Jersey v. Trump – another case challenging the executive order.  Represented by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law , this filing reinforces that birthright citizenship is a right rooted in the purpose of the Reconstruction Amendments, which were established to end slavery, ensure due process, and fortify voting rights. Collectively, these amendments protect the full personhood and civil rights of Black Americans and other historically excluded communities.   The brief also makes the case that the executive order would erode American democracy by diminishing the ability for Black Americans and other communities of color to meaningfully participate in democracy. The order would drastically reshape the electorate and reimpose a racial hierarchy previously abolished by the Reconstruction Amendments.    “The Fourteenth Amendment is unequivocal and clear: any person born in the United States is a US citizen,” said Celina Stewart, chief executive officer

5 ways CEOs are becoming bosses on LinkedIn | PR Week

Long gone are the days when LinkedIn was just a networking tool or a job-hunting platform. Now it’s the go-to site for CEOs to craft their personal brands, connect with stakeholders and build credibility in a business world that values transparency.  While it'd be rare to find a prominent CEO with an Instagram or TikTok account, top executives are everywhere on the Microsoft-owned professional social networking site — whether they're posting or not, that's another story. Still, according to a Weber Shandwick analysis, Fortune 100 CEOs tripled their collective posting frequency on LinkedIn between January 2023 and May 2024. As the opportunities for earned media placement shrink and online executive presences grow, PRWeek spoke with industry experts to get their takes on how executives should use LinkedIn effectively.  Once-a-week rule  A scan of CEOs’ LinkedIn profiles shows how much posting habits vary — from total silence to quarterly updates tied to earnings reports to outliers who post several times a week. And, of course, there are those users who post so often that observers wonder when they have time for their actual jobs.  Weber Shandwick has a LinkedIn Working Group dedicated to helping clients show up more effectively on the

Fake AI video generator tools lure in Facebook and LinkedIn users to deliver malware

Cybercriminals are taking advantage of the public’s interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and delivering malware via text-to-video tools. According to researchers at Mandiant, the criminals are setting up websites claiming to offer “AI video generator” services, and then using those fake tools to distribute information stealers, Trojans, and backdoors. Links to the malicious websites were brought to the researchers’ attention by ads and links in comments on social media platforms. The researchers uncovered thousands of malicious ads on Facebook and LinkedIn—beginning in November 2024—that promote fake AI video generator tools such as “Luma AI,” “Canva Dream Lab,” and “Kling AI.” To avoid detection, the group constantly rotates the domain used in the ads and creates new ads every day, while using both compromised and newly created accounts. The campaign operates through more than 30 websites that imitate popular legitimate AI tools. Researchers identified the first payload as the Starkveil dropper (detected by Malwarebytes/ThreatDown) classified as Trojan.Crypt. The Trojan, written in Rust, requires users to run it twice to fully compromise their machines. After the first run, the malware displays an error window to trick victims into executing it again. The dropper then deploys the XWorm (detected as Backdoor.XWorm) and Frostrift

British grocers, food suppliers welcome sweeping UK-EU post-Brexit agreement

U.K. grocery executives have largely welcomed the recently signed E.U.-U.K. bilateral agreement, saying it will result in lower prices and help boost seafood exports. The deal, which aims to update the two sides’ relations on topics such as security and defense, trade, and access to lucrative fishing grounds post-Brexit , will “ease a source of pressure on food prices,” Morrisons CEO Rami Baitiéh said, according to BBC .  “Sweeping away trade barriers with the E.U. will remove cost, complexity, and delay in food imports from the continent,” he said. As a fresh food manufacturer, Morrisons also welcomes the prospect of “key export markets for our excellent meat and fish becoming more accessible,” Baitiéh said. The agreement has the potential “to significantly reduce costs and bureaucracy both for the fresh produce we import from the E.U. and the goods we move every day to our customers in Northern Ireland,” an Asda spokesperson added...
