Gosnell no longer could envision a future in the NFL. He tore the ACL in his left knee during the final game of Virginia Tech’s 2023 season, a 41-20 victory over Tulane in the Military Bowl. Wide receiver Stephen Gosnell warms up during rookie minicamp on Friday. Joshua Bessex, Buffalo News For two weeks, the 6-foot-2 wide receiver couldn’t dress or feed himself. The job reductions will affect fewer than three per cent of the company's total staff and will span various departments, levels, and regions — including LinkedIn. A company spokesperson stated the move is part of ongoing adjustments designed to keep Microsoft competitive in an increasingly dynamic market landscape. "We continue to implement organisational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace," the spokesperson said. Microsoft job cuts in 2024 The technology giant, which had a global headcount of 228,000 as of June 2024, regularly undertakes strategic layoffs to refocus on key business areas. This latest round of cuts follows a broader trend across the tech industry, where companies are recalibrating amid shifting demands and rising operational costs. Microsoft last implemented significant job cuts in January 2023, when around 10,000 employees were let go — impacting teams working on HoloLens, its augmented reality headset, and other hardware divisions. The current restructuring comes amid a surge in expenditure on artificial intelligence infrastructure and cloud services. Microsoft has committed to spending roughly $80

Eduardo Medina-Cortina has been awarded Mexico’s most prestigious economics award, the Banamex Prize for Economics (Premio Banamex de Economía) for 2023. Awarded in April 2025, this prize is presented annually by Grupo Financiero Banamex, the largest commercial bank in Mexico. It is one of the most significant international accolades for economists in Latin America and the Caribbean and celebrates exceptional research focused on analyzing and solving the region’s economic issues. Dr. Medina-Cortina and his co-author, Daniel Osuna of the Central Bank of Mexico, won the award for their research paper, “The Effect of Immigration Enforcement Abroad on Immigrants’ Home-Country Firms.” The paper examines how immigration enforcement in the U.S. impacts migrant origin regions in Mexico through deportations. The study reveals that Mexican regions receiving a higher number of deportees experience growth in the size, revenue, and exports of their establishments. These changes are attributed to increased consumer demand, the transfer of human and financial capital, and reductions in local labor costs.

A cafe near where I live has started selling fish finger croissants. Something about that combination shortcircuits my brain, leaving me slack-jawed and twitchy, greedy and confused. Objectively, both of these things on their own are great. Croissants suffused my suburban Midlands upbringing with a Parisian elan, a gateway drug to Camus novels and a best-forgotten beret phase. Fish fingers sit in the sweet spot of a perfect Venn diagram – nostalgic comfort food and lazy parent lunch plan. But smashing them together feels sacrilegious – a baffling creative over-reach, like remixing a Vivaldi symphony with Khia’s My Neck, My Back. All of which is to say, I find Design LinkedIn similarly fascinating. Both design and LinkedIn, on their own, are brilliant. I’ve written before about my deep-seated, and inescapable, love of designers. I am also a big fan of LinkedIn. I know why people hate it, but I find it genuinely vibrant – a churning cavalcade of ideas, people, and work that I find interesting and engaging. But together? Can Design LinkedIn fill the void left by Design Twitter?
