Emerging from Twitter’s Ashes: BlueSky and LinkedIn as Beacons of User Privacy and … – Medium

Photo by Alexander Shatov on UnsplashTwitter, once a vibrant and influential social media platform, has witnessed a dramatic decline in recent years, transforming from a beacon of connectivity into a desolate landscape of negativity, toxicity, and misinformation. The platform’s once-thriving community has dwindled, replaced by a growing chorus of discontent and disillusionment.Prior to Elon Musk’s acquisition in 2022, Twitter was widely regarded as a groundbreaking platform, empowering users to connect, share ideas, and engage with diverse perspectives. It was a place where individuals could express themselves freely, fostering meaningful connections and expanding their horizons. However, under Musk’s leadership, the platform’s trajectory took a sharp turn for the worse. Musk’s hands-off approach and controversial decisions ignited a firestorm of criticism, with many users accusing him of neglecting the platform’s core principles and fostering an environment conducive to abuse. The once-cherished principles of open communication and respectful discourse became distorted, replaced by a culture of hostility, harassment, and the relentless spread of misinformation. Twitter’s algorithms, initially designed to connect users with relevant content, inadvertently amplified divisive narratives and echo chambers, further exacerbating the platform’s descent into chaos.Musk’s decision to rebrand Twitter as “X” in an attempt to signal a new era did little to

LinkedIn expands ID verification to more regions through partnership with Persona

LinkedIn is extending its identity verification service, now partnering with Persona to offer ID confirmation to users in more regions. This collaboration allows individuals to authenticate their government-issued IDs, granting them a verification badge on their LinkedIn profiles. New regions for ID verification Initially, LinkedIn provided ID verification in the US through a partnership with CLEAR, known for its airport check-in services. The service was later extended to Canada and Mexico. Now, with Persona, this verification option is available to users in several countries, including Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. However, availability may vary within these regions. Requirements and process To use this service, one needs a government-issued passport with an NFC chip and a device capable of scanning the chip. Most modern smartphones with NFC capabilities, like those used for contactless payments, will suffice. This expansion means more LinkedIn users can authenticate their identities, enhancing the credibility of their profiles. The role of generative AI and user verification As generative AI becomes increasingly prevalent, LinkedIn integrates these technologies into its platform, highlighting the need for reliable user verification. This is particularly important as more AI-generated
