PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The city of Pensacola is getting some national recognition. The city came in at No. 25 on LinkedIn's "cities on the rise" list. It follows other mid-sized cities, like Portland and Nashville. The report says Pensacola is one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the nation. Professionals in many different career fields are flocking to the city. Analyzing date from users, LinkedIn ranked American cities with significant increases in hiring, job creation and talent migration in the past few years. Will Wirth is the marketing and communications director of the Better Business Bureau serving Northwest Florida. He says there are many reasons why Pensacola has become such a hotspot for professionals. According to him, it all started with COVID. "We were considered more work-friendly during and after the pandemic than other states," Wirth said. He says professionals from all over flocked to Florida to look for work. Pensacola, in particular, drew many of them in. "It's not only the beaches, but the schools and the area, the Blue Angels," said Wirth. Pensacola was ranked by LinkedIn as one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the U.S. in its inaugural “cities on the rise” list. Pensacola has drawn in professionals, homebuyers and manufacturing companies en masse since the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to the opportunities that are available in the region as it continues to grow each year. LinkedIn used its own data to form the list and it highlights 25 emerging mid-size cities that have seen significant increases in hiring, job creation and professional migration in recent years. “We were really no different than lots of small-to-mid-size market cities. We allowed our greatest asset − our talented young people − we willingly allowed that to be exploited (by) larger cities. The game has changed now,” said Pensacola Mayor D.C. The STARGATE project aims to additively manufacture functional metal space propulsion components on board the International Space Station. The first part, a 1-Newton thruster developed by DLR, will be printed and returned to Earth for hot-fire testing, in what DLR has described as ‘a game-changer for additive manufacturing in space, unlocking new frontiers for exploration.’ If successful, it will be the first fully functional spacecraft component, built in space and used directly in orbit.  According to a post on LinkedIn, STARGATE, which officially launched at the 4th Workshop for Advanced Manufacturing at ESA ESTEC on July 8th, will study how microgravity influences the printing process and material properties. Juri Munk, Researcher at DLR recently shared how the centre is researching metal AM for deployment in aircraft engines and rocket propulsion systems, and teased this latest development with the ESA.
