The feature appears in iOS beta version and places a small green indicator at the bottom right corner of a user’s profile photo. The dot disappears when the person goes offline. This update builds on WhatsApp’s existing “last seen” and online status tools by giving users a more real time view of activity. It works in a similar way to status indicators already used on platforms like Instagram and Apple’s iMessage. Read more: Have you been blocked? WhatsApp may have a hidden clue At this stage, the green dot is only visible on the contact info page and not in the main chat list. This limits how often users may notice it, but the feature could expand to chats in future updates. WhatsApp has confirmed that privacy settings will still apply. The tool, which relies on speech recognition when turned on by an account, enables individuals – including deaf oeople – to access videos which aren’t manually captioned by the creator. Deaf twins Hermon and Heroda Berhane, who have more than 129,000 followers on the platform with the account ‘Being Her’, highlighted the issue in a video to their account on Tuesday. They said: “Before it was white text on a grey background. Now? Just white text, no background, nothing. “Look, we know the auto captions were never perfect anyway – that’s literally why we tell you guys to create your own subtitles, not just rely on the auto one – but at least before you could read them, and if you are a creator or brand doesn’t add the subtitles at all, that’s ableism, period. “Now, if there’s a white wall or the outfits, anything light behind it, the text just disappears. Gone. “How does this even get approved?” It’s not known when the change to the access feature was introduced, though

John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook as CEO on Tuesday, has a LinkedIn profile, but it's a pretty spartan affair and doesn't list his current job title. Apple’s internal pages were updated immediately with the personnel change on Sept. 1, but Ternus’ LinkedIn lists him as VP of hardware engineering. That's not even his most recent role at Apple; he was promoted to senior VP in 2021 before landing the CEO gig this year. In total, he's been at Apple for more than 25 years. Ternus' profile also mentions a four-year stint as an engineer at Virtual Research Inc. But that’s it for his career history on LinkedIn, with no mention of his many achievements, including his influence on household-name products like the Apple Watch and AirPods. It also includes an education section, with his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Other than that, and a profile picture, it has one followed interest... Apple. On Sept. 1, Ternus joined X with a simple “hello” post, which, as of
