YouTube’s new ‘exposure-based’ model counts hovering over video as a view | Euronews

Published on 31/08/2026 - 17:32 GMT+2 YouTube is about to make every video on the platform look far more popular overnight, and it will not cost the company a cent. ADVERTISEMENT ADVERTISEMENT The platform is shifting to what it calls an "exposure-based model" for views, applied across every format, including shorts, long-form videos, podcasts and live streams. Under the new system, a "view" counts the moment the first frame plays, even if someone is just hovering over a thumbnail. The upshot is simple — the big number under every video is about to go up, probably fast, and it will be counted the same way everywhere on the platform. The change kicks in for any video uploaded after 24 August, which will show the new first-frame count from the outset. Videos already on the platform keep their existing tally until then, after which future views get counted under the new rules. YouTube frames this as a tidying-up exercise, more "consistency" across the platform, no content slipping through uncounted and less confusion about what a view actually represents. But there is a useful precedent for what "consistency" actually means in practice. YouTube already ran this experiment when it switched its short

Another Round features in Mr. Beast’s newest YouTube video – Indiana Daily Student

Imagine a member of YouTuber Mr. Beast’s team asks you and your friends to feature in the creator’s next video, posted to a channel with 515 million subscribers. For IU’s all-male a cappella group, Another Round, that’s exactly what happened. In “Escape 100 Cops, Win $500k,” released Aug. 22, internet personality Jimmy Donaldson, known as Mr. Beast, and his friends must evade a team of 100 Indiana State Police officers. Throughout a duration of 12 hours, each successful arrest would give the ISP department $100k. Six of Another Round’s members were featured in the video. Their team was tasked with hanging out at a crowded market built exclusively for the video, which was used to divert the cops away from Mr. Beast and his friends. Despite having only a sliver of screentime in the final video — through an aerial drone shot — several ensemble members said the experience was really exciting. Gannon Michna, a senior studying marketing and advertising at IU, and Justin Katin, a senior studying musical theater, were both featured in the video. Both said the group spent their free, offscreen time on set at the Muscatatuck Urban Trainer Center in southern Indiana singing a cappella. “We

Hasan Piker insists Abdul El-Sayed asked him to ‘stump’ for Michigan campaign amid backlash

Twitch streamer Hasan Piker said that Democratic Michigan U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed asked him to “stump” for his campaign during an interview Friday following the intense backlash the Democratic politician has faced for appearing with him. Piker spoke to Semafor columnist David Weigel about the backlash he has received from Democrats since appearing on the campaign trail with El-Sayed, which he claimed was El-Sayed’s idea, not his. “He asked me to stump for him, and I had not considered that ever before,” Piker said. “I’d never really delivered a speech like that before.” EL-SAYED PALS AROUND WITH FAR-LEFT STREAMER HASAN PIKER THE DAY BEFORE CRUCIAL MICHIGAN SENATE ELECTION Piker added that he had previously decided to get more involved with politics through New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s campaign but did not face significant backlash for that effort compared to campaigning for El-Sayed. He explained that after campaigning for El-Sayed, establishment Democrats and think tanks like Third Way came out to attack him. “I’ll admit I didn’t realize how much the media would think that this is different,” he continued. “I had no idea that in the mindset of, you know, people in D.C., in the mindset of like

WhatsApp chat used to send cash for crime and extremism – The Nation

LONDON  -  A WhatsApp group chat was used to send hundreds of millions of euros in cash around the world, funding organised crime and extremism with no paper trail, an investigation by European broadcasters has found. The 532-member group chat, called “Traders of Greater Europe”, was used to arrange cash transfers across borders for their clients, including to British cities such as Birmingham and London. In one case, payments from Brussels went to militants from the Islamic State group (IS) in Syria. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) investigative journalism network, which includes the BBC, also found wider evidence of similar cash transfer systems being used in people smuggling and drug trafficking. The group chat, which contained more than 82,000 messages sent between late February and December 2022, was first uncovered by Belgian investigating magistrate Vincent Guerra. An investigating magistrate is a judge who examines evidence in complex cases before trial and makes a recommendation about whether they should proceed. Guerra said the number of transactions was “staggering” and the network covered “the entire planet”. The case began as an investigation into terror financing, but “it became just a drop in the ocean of transactions”, he said. Members of the group

The Sad Decline of Guanabo, Havana’s Most Popular Beach

Copy link E-mail Facebook WhatsApp Bluesky X LinkedIn Threads Reddit Photos: Juan Suarez Photo Feature by Juan Suarez HAVANA TIMES – On the northeastern coast of the capital, Guanabo, a seaside town, is becoming increasingly distant from what it once was. Its beaches, once cheerful, are now sad and dirty. Its empty, dark streets seem to long for the memory of those lively, crowded times. Power outages lasting more than 20 hours, water shortages, and a deathly silence dominate the atmosphere today. See more photo features here on Havana Times.

Ex-Broncos RB Jaleel McLaughlin posts ‘farewell’ on Instagram

Aug. 30, 2026, 4:54 p.m. MT Jaleel McLaughlin is not going to be a member of the Denver Broncos' 53-man roster. That, sadly, was expected by many. McLaughlin posted a farewell message to Broncos Country on Instagram on Sunday, right around the time that teams had to finalize their initial 53-man rosters. It brings an end to McLaughlin's three-year run with the team after going undrafted out of Youngstown State. McLaughlin will now hit waivers and be available to be claimed by any other team. It is likely that a team needing depth at the running back position could bring him aboard. The Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and Las Vegas Raiders could be among the teams looking at his services. Jaleel McLaughlin will be looking for a new team in 2026 McLaughlin always faced long odds to make the team this year after the Broncos used a fourth-round pick to select Jonah Coleman. With J.K. Dobbins back on a two-year deal and RJ Harvey still in the mix, the team had its top three running backs. McLaughlin lost snaps last season to Tyler Badie because of Badie's ability to play special teams and the fact that he
