Illegal E-Motos Still Being Shipped To NYC Despite Mamdani Cease-And-Desist Deadline

Badge of dishonor. What part of “cease and desist” don’t they understand? Massive online retailers Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are defying a Mamdani order to stop selling dangerous and illegal e-motos and scooters to New York City customers — and the administration is preparing to take the rogues to court. A review of the offerings on both retail giants showed that both continue to promote listings of illegal e-motos and scooters — despite an Aug. 5 cease-and-desist letter sent by the Mamdani administration to 42 retailers accused of selling illegal two-wheeled electric vehicles. At the time, Mayor Mamdani set an Aug. 18 deadline to comply, or risk a fine of up to $2,000 per device sold. Streetsblog’s review found that around 19 of the 42 companies — including Amazon and Walmart — have stopped shipping to city addresses. But major resale marketplaces, like Facebook, still have many listings for illegal devices. “Facebook basically does not feel that the laws in New York City apply to them,” said Baruch Herzfeld,  » Read More

Bundesliga Media expands UK and Ireland YouTube coverage with Jamie Vardy channel …

Bundesliga Media has expanded its UK and Ireland broadcast approach for the 2026-27 season, adding a YouTube channel fronted by former Premier League winner Jamie Vardy and renewing its agreement with the YouTube channel That’s Football, hosted by Mark Goldbridge. Vardy will lead the live broadcast on the YouTube channel Jamie Vardy’s Having a Party, showing seven Bundesliga Friday night matches across the UK and Ireland during the season. The partnership begins with the season-opening fixture between FC Bayern München and VfB Stuttgart this evening (Friday 28 August), with further matches to be confirmed during the campaign. The collaboration forms part of a broader partnership with Banijay Entertainment. Through Banijay UK and its Workerbee production company, the group will produce the Bundesliga live show with Vardy and other guests, providing reaction, insight and discussion around German football fixtures. “Fans don’t just want to watch football anymore, they want to experience it with the people they already know and trust,” said Rick Murray, chief executive of Workerbee. “Jamie has built an incredible community around the podcast, and thanks to our Bundesliga partnership, we can bring that audience closer to some seriously big games. This deal acts as another major step for

WhatsApp boosts account security with three new security features – The Star

BERLIN: WhatsApp has introduced three new security features designed to give users better protection for their accounts. The updates allow users to store multiple passkeys for a single account, make two-step verification more secure and provide additional information when calls come in from unknown numbers – though the latter is not available on all devices. Here's a closer look at the three new features. 1. Passkeys Users can now store more than one passkey for an account, which Meta said was particularly useful for those who use both iOS and Android devices. To add further devices, go to Settings, then Account, then Passkeys. Passkeys are a login method that does away with passwords entirely, using automatically generated cryptographic keys that are exchanged in the background. They are considered especially secure because, unlike passwords, passkeys cannot easily be stolen, guessed or forgotten. They are also seen as convenient, as users only need to confirm their identity briefly via fingerprint, Face ID or a screen lock code. 2. Two-step verification This security feature is being improved by allowing users to choose an individual password instead of the previous six-digit PIN. The two-step verification option itself remains optional. Activating it is advisable, however

WhatsApp Replaces Its Six-Digit PIN With a Password – Quasa

WhatsApp’s August 25 security announcement says the service is replacing the six-digit PIN used for two-step verification with a longer password that can include letters, numbers and special characters. The extra credential is intended to protect an account even when someone else obtains its one-time registration code. The rollout also allows more than one passkey on an account and gives Android users additional context about calls from numbers outside their contacts. A same-day TechCrunch report describes all three changes and notes that multiple passkeys are meant to accommodate people using WhatsApp across Android and iOS. The password protects the step after the one-time code WhatsApp’s stronger two-step verification targets account takeovers in which an attacker obtains the temporary code sent during phone-number registration. When two-step verification is enabled, the additional password remains a separate barrier: possession of the one-time code alone should not complete registration on another device. The previous credential was restricted to six digits. Allowing a longer combination of letters, numbers and special characters expands the possible credential space and makes an unpredictable password harder to guess. The new format does not automatically make every password strong, however; a short, obvious or reused choice can still weaken the

Hasan Piker Condemned by Jeffries, Ossoff and Other Democrats: Full List – Newsweek

A wave of elected Democrats has condemned Twitch streamer Hasan Piker after he said American Jews could face violence if they keep being seen as strongly supporting Israel. The comments have widened a fight inside the party over how to handle one of its most popular online surrogates. The backlash followed an August 20 livestream in which Piker displayed a photo of Democratic Michigan state Senator Jeremy Moss, who is Jewish and running for Michigan's 11th Congressional District. Piker warned that Jewish Americans who kept expressing singular support for Israel would eventually invite "someone" to "take action" against them. He has since blamed the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC for the wave of condemnations and says he welcomes it. Newsweek reached out to Piker for comment on Thursday. Full List of Democrats Who Have Condemned Hasan Piker Hakeem Jeffries, House Minority Leader, New York Cory Booker, Senator, New Jersey Elissa Slotkin, Senator, Michigan Jacky Rosen, Senator, Nevada Jon Ossoff, Senator, Georgia Josh Gottheimer, Representative, New Jersey Ritchie Torres, Representative, New York Jared Moskowitz, Representative, Florida Brad Schneider, Representative, Illinois Greg Stanton, Representative, Arizona Hillary Scholten, Representative, Michigan Haley Stevens, Representative, Michigan Jake Auchincloss, Representative, Massachusetts What Prompted the Backlash Piker displayed

Grassley’s Big Tech Investigation Yields Child Safety Results – Senate Judiciary Committee

BUTLER COUNTY, IOWA – U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley’s (R-Iowa) investigation into eight major tech companies has prompted “significantly improved” and “more actionable” reports of online child exploitation, according to a letter from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). These improvements have allowed law enforcement to more effectively respond to instances of child abuse. “Following your direct outreach to these platforms regarding these issues, NCMEC is pleased to share that each of the companies have constructively engaged with NCMEC to significantly improve their reporting to the CyberTipline… more actionable CyberTipline reports are being submitted, enabling law enforcement to better investigate offenders and safeguard children from sexual exploitation,” NCMEC wrote in a letter to Grassley. In April 2026, Grassley opened a congressional inquiry into Meta, TikTok, Amazon, Snapchat, Discord, X.AI, Grindr and Roblox regarding the companies’ alleged failure to sufficiently report online child sexual exploitation. In June 2026, Grassley released responses from each of the companies, which explained their efforts to improve reporting processes. In August 2026, NCMEC informed Grassley that each platform had taken “substantive measures” to address its reporting deficiencies as a direct result of Grassley’s oversight. “Protecting children online is a top legislative

Here’s what is changing for teens on Instagram and Facebook – The Philadelphia Inquirer

SAN FRANCISCO — Meta said Wednesday that it would change how teenagers use Instagram and Facebook as part of a landmark settlement with 47 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories over social media addiction claims. Instagram and Facebook currently allow anyone 13 or older to open accounts. Users younger than 18 are automatically directed into Teen Accounts, which are set to private by default and limit certain types of harmful content. The settlement is expected to alter the apps further. Meta said new features will be introduced in the next six months, while other changes, like how the company verifies user ages, could take up to a year. In the past year, Meta had already started to introduce some changes mentioned in the settlement. Here’s a guide to what to expect. Time limits Teenagers will be limited to just two hours a day on Instagram and Facebook, unless a parent goes into their settings to give permission for more time. Young users will also be automatically restricted from using the apps overnight, between midnight and 6 a.m. In addition, Instagram and Facebook notifications will be silenced during school hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Turning features off
