This is Clubhouse: the voice-based social network that raises expectations and investment in equal …

“A space for casual and direct audio conversations.” This is how Clubhouse is officially defined, a new social network that in just a few months – and even less, a few weeks in the case of Spain – has risen to the level of expectation, comments on other social networks such as Twitter, and whose parent company has raised important financing flows to carry out new improvements. But what is Clubhouse? We could define it as a social network based on streaming voice audios and whose content is ephemeral. As a kind of podcast counterpart of which Twitch is for the video format. Although perhaps not that either, because for now Clubhouse is more focused as we said on that the conversations that occur are natural, to the point that, at least for the moment, it captures the audio directly from the microphone of the telephone or the headphones that you have connected by Bluetooth. In other words, it does not prioritize that the quality of the audio is captured by a mic, surely inviting you to do so without further preparation. Now we will continue to explain how the Clubhouse works inside once we enter, but first we must…

Despite its Exclusivity Clubhouse is a Fun Place to be, Here's how to Join the Conversation

Slack threads, Scheduled Zoom calls, and endless email chains do not capture the unpredictable thrill or joy of having physical conversations. With COVID-19 evolving the way we work and socialize, the free-flowing, ad-hoc communication with friends and open office conversations are often missing. Clubhouse, a new type of networking app has recreated the spontaneity of conversations online. The app uses an audio-based social network where people can spontaneously jump into voice chat rooms and talk about stuff together. Clubhouse is “24/7 virtual panel” where you can jump in and even participate in the live audio rooms of friends, teammates, industry professionals and even celebrities like Kevin Hart, Oprah and Drake. Over $100 million raised Founded last year by Paul Davison, who previously founded offline people-meeting location app Highlight, Clubhouse has grown from having just 1,500 users in May 2020 to over two million active users. Last weekend, the buzzy live-voice chat announced a new funding round led by venture firm Andreessen Horowitz. According to Axios, the Series B round was about $100 million. The app which was valued at about $100 million last May after it raised $12 million is now worth $1 billion in valuation according to The Information. Absolute exclusivity…for now The…

Twitter bans MyPillow CEO

MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell chats with President Donald Trump in the White House in 2017. | Alex Brandon/AP Photo Twitter has pulled the plug on the account of MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell. A spokesperson for Twitter said, "This account was suspended for repeated violations of our civic integrity policy.” Twitter confirmed late Monday that the ban on the entrepreneur from Minnesota is a permanent one. The ban is the latest in a series of disciplinary actions taken by Twitter that include, most notably, the banning of former President Donald Trump in an effort to reduce the spread of blatant political lies and punish those who incited violence, particularly in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol. Lindell has been a vocal backer of Trump, and reports surfaced earlier this month that he suggested the president declare martial law in the wake of what he saw as widespread election fraud. Among other things, Lindell alleged that the voting machine companies Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems were part of a conspiracy to rig the election against Trump. Upon threat of lawsuit from Dominion, Lindell told the New York Times: "I would really welcome them to sue me because I have…

Publishers Have A Window Of Opportunity To Change Google And Facebook

by AdExchanger // Tuesday, January 26th, 2021 – 12:33 am “Data-Driven Thinking” is written by members of the media community and contains fresh ideas on the digital revolution in media. Today’s column is written by Mike Shaughnessy, COO at Kargo. As we come out of the fog of 2020, we must remember the five incredibly important investigations happening right now that affect the way content is discovered, consumed and paid for. First, a striking US lawsuit from the Federal Trade Commission alleges that Facebook is a monopoly and demands its break up. Second, ten states are suing Google for anti-competitive behavior, including its “monopolistic” dominance in advertising marketplaces. The industry has long called for such regulatory efforts, but let’s not sit back and hope they turn out in favor of the independent publishers. We need to keep our voices loud to remind lawmakers of the importance of justice for our industry. The other side of the world shows what can happen when publishers lose their voice during these processes. In Australia, Google and Facebook are getting a valuable concession in the form of legislation focused on how the two giants pay publishers for content. In the new statute, Google and Facebook…

We should stop filtering ourselves

Launched only 10 years ago on July 8, 2011, Snapchat has grown to over 46 million users worldwide. From middle schoolers to influencers, Snapchat is part of life now. And of course, anyone can see why. It provided an easy and effective way to communicate, while also stimulating the visual part of the brain. Photos can be sent at the click of a button, and there is limited accountability since they are deleted seconds after opening. While there is more than one problem with Snapchat’s methods in general, there is one in particular that often goes unnoticed: filters. Now, the term “filters” is used very loosely, since that is what everyone calls all the fun options on Snapchat’s photo setting. To be more specific, however, filters are technically only the frames and artwork that can be added to the snaps (hearts, color tint, etc.). What actually is the problem here is called “lenses.” Lenses are often just referred to as filters but are in fact very different. Lenses are augmented reality, changing your face shape, eyes, hair color, or adding ears and the like. Lenses may seem fun at first. They change your voice, make your mouth super big and…
