Snapchat's 'creepy' AI blunder reminds us that chatbots aren't people. But as the … – Yahoo News

ShutterstockArtificial intelligence-powered (AI) chatbots are becoming increasingly human-like by design, to the point that some among us may struggle to distinguish between human and machine. This week, Snapchat’s My AI chatbot glitched and posted a story of what looked like a wall and ceiling, before it stopped responding to users. Naturally, the internet began to question whether the ChatGPT-powered chatbot had gained sentience.A crash course in AI literacy could have quelled this confusion. But, beyond that, the incident reminds us that as AI chatbots grow closer to resembling humans, managing their uptake will only get more challenging – and more important. From rules-based to adaptive chatbotsSince ChatGPT burst onto our screens late last year, many digital platforms have integrated AI into their services. Even as I draft this article on Microsoft Word, the software’s predictive AI capability is suggesting possible sentence completions. Snapchat users freak out when the “My AI” chatbot posts a video story – PhoneArena

Earlier this year, Snapchat launched its own conversational chatbot powered by ChatGBT. At the time, Snapchat warned its subscribers that its My AI chatbot, like all AI chatbots, is prone to giving incorrect answers due to "hallucinations." Snapchat told users, "While My AI is designed to avoid biased, incorrect, harmful or misleading information, mistakes may occur As with all AI-powered chatbots, My AI is prone to hallucination and can be tricked into saying just about anything."Snapchat continued, "Please be aware of its many deficiencies, and sorry in advance! All conversations with My AI will be restored and may be reviewed to improve the product experience. Pleases do not share any secrets with My AI and do not rely on it for advice." CNN reported earlier this week that Snapchat users were panicking on Tuesday night after My AI started acting strangely. Typically, My AI answers questions and has conversations with Snapchat users. But on Tuesday night, the My AI feature did things out of character which concerned Snapchat users who thought that the chatbot had become sentient. Among these actions, My AI posted a video story of a wall and a ceiling; typically only humans can create a video

Snapchat's My AI Goes Rogue, Posts To Stories – Slashdot

Posted by BeauHD on Thursday August 17, 2023 @06:00AM from the mind-of-its-own dept. On Tuesday, Snapchat's My AI in-app chatbot posted its own Story to the app that appeared to be a photo of a wall and ceiling. It then stopped responding to users' messages, which some Snapchat users found disconcerting. TechCrunch reports: Though the incident made for some great tweets (er, posts), we regret to inform you that My AI did not develop self-awareness and a desire to express itself through Snapchat Stories. Instead, the situation arose because of a technical outage, just as the bot explained. Snap confirmed the issue, which was quickly addressed last night, was just a glitch. (And My AI wasn't snapping photos of your room, by the way). "My AI experienced a temporary outage that's now resolved," a spokesperson told TechCrunch. However, the incident does raise the question as to whether or not Snap was considering adding new functionality to My AI that would allow the AI chatbot to post to Stories. Currently, the AI bot sends text messages and can even Snap you back with images -- weird as they may be. But does it do Stories? Not yet, apparently. "At this time

How did an AI chatbot just scare a bunch of Snapchat users? – Government Technology

Apparently nothing terrifies social media users like a computer glitch. Snapchat’s My AI chatbot recently had a moment, and quite a few users got very concerned at first. It all started with a video. A video that lasts one second, to be precise. My AI, which is powered by OpenAI’s large language model (LLM) technology, posted the video to its story late Tuesday. It shows a two-tone image that could look like a wall and ceiling, which had some users concerned that the bot might have been spying on them. “It matches my wall and ceiling where I rent and I was freaking out,” someone commented on X (formerly Twitter).A Snapchat spokesperson told Mashable that the bot had “experienced an outage,” so there’s a good chance this was a related glitch and nothing more.

Another teen girl called one of the boys via Snapchat audio and told him to come outside because Reed wanted to fight him, according to testimony.  Contributed photo Kamarjay Shaw and his mother The group went outside, assuming it was going to be a one-on-one fist fight between Reed and Kamarjay or one of the other boys. The boys testified that they were trying to get Reed to come out to the street to fight, but Reed refused, instead trying to get the other boys to come into the house or backyard, which they refused to do.
