A woman has revealed how she was punched repeatedly on a night out on New Year's Eve leaving her 'scared to go out.' Yazmin Flowers, from the Birmingham area, said she was attacked in the VIP area of Chinawhite in Newcastle after she refused to give a man her Snapchat details. Snap is suing the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for rejecting its application to trademark the word “spectacles” for its digital eyewear camera device. But the USPTO has maintained that “spectacles” is a generic term for smart glasses and that Snap’s version “has not acquired distinctiveness,” as required for a trademark. In its complaint filed Wednesday in US District Court in California, Snap claims that the Spectacles name “evokes an incongruity between an 18th century term for corrective eyewear and Snap’s high-tech 21st century smart glasses. Police charged a 15-year-old boy in connection with a threat made on social media Monday that resulted in all Leechburg Area School District buildings being placed on lockdown for a portion of the day. Parents were notified about the lockdown by an automated voicemail message sent out by Superintendent Tiffany Nix. The lockdown lasted from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to the superintendent. Leechburg police Chief Jason Schaffer said school officials contacted the department after learning about the threat made on the Snapchat social media platform. “The threat on social media was made in reference to a gun,” Shaffer said. “The threat wasn’t directed at any specific individuals, it was general in nature.” The chief said the threat was received by several students even though there was no intended target. The teen, whose identity is not being released, is being charged with a felony count of making terroristic threats as well as a misdemeanor charge of harassment. Cybertip.ca, Canada’s tipline for reporting the online sexual exploitation of children, is seeing an alarming trend in reports from teens who have had their Snapchat accounts hacked and had their intimate images or videos shared on the social media platform. Since August 2021, both Cybertip.ca and the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P), which operates Cybertip.ca, have received a combined 27 reports related to this extortion trend. In some cases, the perpetrator threatened to hack their Snapchat account and share intimate images of the teen. In other cases, the teen’s Snapchat account was hacked and intimate images were distributed as a result.
