Voisey, a karaoke music app, acquired by Snapchat

Snapchat is one of the most used social platforms in the world. And it is the one that revolutionised the idea of clicking photos and adding various effects on them. With a wide range of filters and stickers the experience of using the platform to make oneself look like a king/queen or something funny like a clown is very engaging. And now with its increasing popularity, the platform might be looking to integrate singing features in its app. So, it acquired Voisey, a karaoke music app. About Voisey Image Source: Voisey Voisey lets one create music videos by using their own voice with the background sound. Those who are interested in singing but don’t know how to play instruments can use this app. It also has several features that let’s one enhance the audio quality of the singer. Like Snapchat filters, the app has support for audio filters and also autotune that can help enhance the user’s voice. The platform is a perfect place for those who just want music content. It is kind of TikTok with nothing of that cringy videos in it. So, that makes it much more appealing to a niche audience, and generally appealing to everyone because who doesn’t want to sing right. Details about the acqusition Credits to TechCrunch for providing the speculated details of this acquisition as nothing has been said officially. The fact that Snapchat has acquired Voisey was understood when the company changed its address to Snapchat’s location. Another important fact was that all the previous directors of the music app had resigned. And in place of the two new officials from SnapChat were given the roles. Image Source: Snapchat Since the app did not raise many funds so we cannot estimate how much the acquisition would have cost Snapchat. But, one…

'Joke' Snapchat pic on school shooting sparks Interpol alert

19th Nov 2020 4:55 PM Premium Content Subscriber only A GLENELLA man has narrowly avoided jail after an international policing organisation flagged an “inside joke” social media post as a security threat. The Mackay Magistrates Court heard Zachary Andrew Philp, 26, posted a photo to Snapchat of his friend holding a replica gun on May 22, including the caption “Boutta be a school shooting”. ‘Boutta’ is a slang word for ‘about to’. Police prosecutor David Epstein said police took the matter seriously and were particularly concerned about nearby primary schools in the area. “Police attended an address in Glenella in relation to information received by Interpol, Washington DC … regarding a possible school shooting threat in the jurisdiction of Mackay,” Mr Epstein said. “When questioned by police the defendant has made full admissions. “He said he had no intention to offend anyone and realised it was a stupid thing to do and at the time he thought it was a funny inside joke.” Snapchat is a photo-sharing social media app. Legal Aid representative Erin Beer said Philp had intended to share the post only as a joke between friends, but accidentally made the post public. The court heard Philp had no intention of carrying out the act. During a search of his home, police also found two marijuana plants in Philp’s backyard and a bong. Ralph Lauren Going Virtual for the Holidays

Ralph Lauren has teamed with Snapchat to launch a virtual experience for holiday. Ralph Lauren is embracing the digital world for the holidays this year using a series of creative efforts — from Snapchat to virtual stores — to invite customers to experience its world. The anchor piece of the project is the creation of a virtual store that will allow customers to visit four of the company’s brick-and-mortar shops in New York, Beverly Hills, Paris and Hong Kong. The virtual store will sell current-season merchandise as well as vintage pieces. The idea of a virtual store was tested in Beverly Hills this fall and was deemed a success, with virtual “foot traffic” 10 times higher than the number of people who would have visited the physical store, the company said. As a result, the company rushed to get the other stores ready for the holidays. David Lauren, vice chairman and chief innovation officer, said the company had been working on the idea of creating a virtual store for some time now, but the pandemic accelerated its plan. “Customers want to know what’s trending around the world,” he said. “What’s ‘the’ shoe in Paris or which celebrity in Los Angeles is wearing that dress?” Before COVID-19, Ralph Lauren shoppers used to travel globally and stop into stores in the cities they visited. But with even local travel impacted by the current health crisis, the company took the opportunity to replicate its stores online and allow customers to visit safely in that way. “Now you can go to Paris for your holiday shopping,” Lauren said. “You can’t go to the London store right now and you might not want to drive into New York to shop, but you don’t need to in the modern world — a COVID-19 world. You can…
