Watch This Popular YouTuber In Canada Swapping Lebanese & Polish Foods

Guy Hobeika is a YouTuber, Snapchat artist, and content creator who does pranks, challenges, reactions, and vlogs on his channel called “DRHOBS”. He started his YouTube career back in 2017 and now has 228K subscribers. What makes his channel special, however, is that he’s funny, innovative, and most importantly that he’s not shy about showing his Lebanese side. Guy was born and raised in Lebanon but is now based in Ottawa, Canada. During an interview with Apt613, he stated: “I grew up in Beirut, Lebanon. I stayed there until Grade 12 and then I moved here. As a kid. I had the idea of doing something different, to have an impact.” He also shared his future goals with them, saying: “I want to travel and do more Snapchat around the world. I’ve done it in Paris and London. I did a couple snaps in Lebanon.” “I live in Ottawa so most of my Snapchats are here. I want to travel and do a Snapchat character that travels around. I also want to travel around Canada, and show my followers.” Though he lived most of his life outside Lebanon, Guy is apparently still attached to his homeland and roots. It also seems that he’s attached to Lebanese food the most. His videos “Lebanese & Italian Swap Lunch Food”, “Lebanese & Asian Swap Breakfast Food”, “Lebanese vs. Mexican Sandwiches”, and other challenges of the like prove just that. His most recent video, posted on November 6th and gaining over nine thousand views so far, is titled: “Lebanese & Polish Swap Lunch Foods”. His goal was, of course, to have some delicious food, and to prove that the “Lebanese and Polish food culture are not that far apart”. He presented his Polish friend Lindsay with Lebanese classics like Falafel, Manakich, Koussa, Tabbouleh, Wara’…

Liberating myself by deleting social media

On Tuesday I deleted all of my social media. There were many factors behind this sudden decision, but the overarching one was that I felt like I had to pretend to be something I wasn’t always: I had to pretend to be okay.  Although this might not be the healthiest thing, I generally keep a pretty good wall up around my emotions, which leads most people to believe that I’m totally fine even when I’m hurting deep inside. My fake and real happy faces are almost identical, and I don’t usually express my emotions verbally, other than to a handful of people. Being on social media — primarily on Snapchat and Instagram — made me feel like I had to smile in pictures and keep small-talk conversations going when all I wanted to do was crawl under the covers and never leave. Ignoring people’s messages, or “leaving them on read,” was not an option either, since that could be misconstrued as being passive-aggressive. In reality, I simply did not have the mental capacity to have any sort of social interaction with anyone. My primary concern with deleting most of the easiest ways to keep in touch with people was that I would have no human contact at all outside of my roommate and parents. Nevertheless, just over a week ago I deleted Instagram and Snapchat off my phone and logged out of my Facebook and Twitter accounts. For two days I felt total peace and could truly focus on myself without interruption or pressure from anyone else to act any way that I wasn’t actually feeling, even for a second. On the third day, as we neared the weekend, I needed to log into Instagram to check on some work-related things and into Snapchat to contact someone urgently whose phone…

Facebook : WhatsApp Wants to Host Your Intimate Chats. Don't Fret — They'll Be Deleted in a Week.

By Katie Deighton Facebook Inc.'s WhatsApp has introduced a setting that automatically deletes messages after seven days, a move aimed at encouraging users to feel comfortable chatting in confidence. The feature, which as of this month can be applied to both one-to-one and group chats, is meant to make chats feel more like face-to-face conversations than imperishable email threads or text messages do, said Zafir Khan, product manager at WhatsApp. Records of most in-person conversations don't exist forever, so conversations on WhatsApp shouldn't have to either, according to Mr. Khan. "Things like text messages had a very different use case over a decade ago -- they were used more for one-off coordination, because of the limited characters and the spottiness of connection," he said. "But now smartphones have proliferated and people always have their phones with them, they're using WhatsApp messaging for very deep and intimate conversations." That led WhatsApp's product team to rethink its assumptions about how the service should work, Mr. Khan said. They hope the new feature will encourage more people to host personal conversations on the platform, confident that their messages won't come back to haunt them, he said. The feature may also help Facebook boost engagement on WhatsApp, according to Miguel Alvarez, global chief technology officer of digital agency AnalogFolk Ltd. He said users may check in on conversations more if they are afraid of missing something important. People in group chats may also be motivated to chime in to keep WhatsApp conversations from going empty, he added. "Data and privacy are clearly important in this," Mr. Alvarez said, "but really it almost forces users to keep a conversation ongoing." The concept of sending a disappearing message was popularized in the early 2010s by Snapchat, which let users send ephemeral photos to their contacts. Snapchat's…

Police: Fontana Man Posed As 16-Year-Old Boy To Talk To Teen Girls On Snapchat, Kik, Tik Tok

FONTANA (CBSLA) — Police say a Fontana man arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography has been posing as a 16-year-old boy to talk to underage girls on several social media outlets. (credit: Fontana Police Department) Edgar Carrizalez, 27, was arrested on Oct. 28 after Fontana’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was notified by authorities in Grapevine, Texas that they were investigating a case involving a 12-year-old girl who had been contacted on Snapchat and was sent an unsolicited, vulgar sexual photo. The investigation led to Carrizalez, who was arrested at his home in the 9300 block of Kempster Avenue in Fontana. A parole search uncovered child pornography on his electronic devices, and evidence that Carrizalez had been posing as a 16-year-old boy in order to communicate with teens on social media platforms, including Snapchat, Kik, Tik Tok, Discord, Frog What’s Up Friend, and Spotafriend Meet Teens App, according to Fontana police. Investigators say Carrizalez would often use the screen names Kekid45 and Kyleyou1 on these platforms. Carrizalez is being held without bail. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance in this case on Wednesday. Detectives say they believe there are more victims in this investigation. Anyone with information about Carrizalez can contact Fontana police’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force at hkouroubacalis@fontana.org. CBSLA Staff Comments
