Taxi driver Octavian Codreanu was killed at the scene on the B4425 near Aldsworth in December 2022, and his passenger, schoolteacher Moyra Whelan, later died from her injuries. Liberty Michell, 21, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and two counts of causing death by driving whilst uninsured. Mitchell had passed her driving test just three weeks before the crash. Gloucestershire Police said footage from Mitchell’s Snapchat account showed her driving on narrow roads at speeds of up to 100mph. More than 40 families, whose children died after using Snapchat, rallied on Thursday outside of Snap Inc. headquarters to urge the company to make changes on their social media application for the protection of youth. The families arrived by charter bus to Santa Monica Business Park, where they blocked off the road leading into Snap Inc.’s buildings. The families along with child-safety advocates from Heat Initiatives began painting the names of 108 children and young adults on the road. Families said their loved ones died due to harms they experienced while using Snapchat, which involved access to drugs and other illicit substances, online bullying and sexual exploitation. The group urged Snap Inc. to implement safety measures such as the removal of all addictive features, default minor users to the most private settings, remove features that facilitate harmful connections with adults, disable any artificial intelligence chat-companion, implement age assurance, and to stop algorithms that promote harmful information, drugs and child sexual abuse. BOSTON, MAS. — An Oswego man has pleaded guilty in a Snapchat hacking scheme in federal court in Boston. Twenty-seven-year-old Kyle Svara pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, computer fraud, and making false statements related to child sexual abuse material. Prosecutors say Svara posed as a representative of Snapchat to gain access to victims’ accounts and steal nude or semi-nude photos in 2020 and 2021. He then sold and traded the images online. Authorities also say he was hired by a former Northeastern University track coach to obtain photos of students and other women the coach knew. Investigators allege Svara also targeted victims in the Plainfield area and students at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Svara is scheduled to be sentenced in May.
