But today, Snapchat has shared a pretty mind-blowing new stat: “ Every Snap is a moment for self-expression, connection with friends, or sharing something that matters.  In 2024, that self-expression reached new heights:  Snapchatters created well over one trillion selfie Snaps, a testament to how our global community of over 930 million use our camera to communicate, play, and feel closer together.” Yes, “trillion,” with a “t”. Snapchatters created over a trillion selfies in the app in just one year. For context, Apple recently reported that  iPhone users took over 500 billion selfies last year. So Snapchat users took more than 2x the amount of selfies that all iPhone users did. Maybe that's an indicator that Android users are more vain, or at least, that a lot more Android users are using Snap. Cops in Stony Point arrested a student who attended classes at Fieldstone Middle School — following a six-month investigation. Apparently a number of students also came forward with allegations. The claim is the teen contacted victims online and pretended to be a woman — then solicited private, sexually-explicit photos. Upon receipt of those photos, the teen would allegedly demand payment in the form of gift cards — or threaten to expose the explicit snaps. The government released guidelines on how platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit, X and Instagram should apply the world's first ban on children using social media from Dec. 10. It says verifying the ages of all account holders would be unreasonable. “We think it would be unreasonable if platforms reverified everyone’s age,” said Australia’s eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant, who drafted the guidelines. Her use of the word “reverified" suggested the platforms usually already had sufficient data to verify a user was older than 16. She said the platforms have “targeting technology” to focus on those under 16. "They can target us with deadly precision when it comes to advertising. LOGAN — An 18-year-old Smithfield man convicted of trying to bribe an 11-year-old girl to have sex with him has been spared any further jail time. Matthew Yi-De Harvey was given credit for two weeks in jail and seven month on pretrial supervision instead of any more incarceration. Harvey was sentenced Sept. 10 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to enticing a minor and criminal solicitation of a minor, both amended to second-degree felonies. According to prosecutors, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies received a call from a male individual on Dec. 4, 2024, explaining how Harvey was chatting with his little sister on Snapchat. The complainant said the suspect had offered to pay the young girl $50 to have sex with him. Harvey had initially told the victim that he was a freshman. He also reportedly asked her if she had any friends who would also be interested in being paid to have sex. Deputies were able to obtain a warrant and trace the Snapchat account. Snapchat adds Infinite Retention for permanent chats and Group Streaks for collaborative messaging, giving users more control and flexibility in conversations. Snapchat has recently added Infinite Retention, which allows users to save chat history forever and not have the messages disappear when one views them. Prosecutors said James Weber, 32, exchanged messages with a young girl for about 200 consecutive days.According to a criminal complaint, Weber coached the girl and started sending her Snapchats in 2023 when she was 12. They continued through August 2024.Prosecutors listed some of the messages in the criminal complaint. One includes a message Weber is accused of sending that reads, "Your eyes had me lost today. Never stop looking at me with those."In an interview with police, prosecutors said Weber admitted to giving the girl jewelry and sending the messages. The complaint said Weber said he felt "like he served as a father role" and "wouldn't be surprised if there was something she took a certain way."Weber is charged with nine counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.He's set to appear in court next month.
