Snapchat, the widely used multimedia messaging platform, experienced a significant global outage on Sunday, disrupting services for users in Pakistan and several other countries. Many were unable to send or receive messages, photos, or videos. Monitoring service Downdetector reported a surge in complaints from users in regions including Pakistan, the UK, and France. About 57% of affected users said they were unexpectedly logged out, while 24% faced issues sharing content and 18% struggled to upload media. The disruption began early Sunday, with a spike in complaints particularly from Pakistani cities like Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. Users from across Punjab and Sindh expressed their frustration on social media platforms, according to Downdetector data. As of now, Snapchat has not provided any official explanation for the outage. However, some tech experts believe the issue may be linked to server-side malfunctions or bugs related to recent updates. Notably, a number of users found that the app worked when accessed via a Virtual Private Network (VPN), prompting speculation that the problem might be regional or connected to specific server routes. A heat map from Downdetector illustrated the global scale of the disruption, showing that the issue was not limited to one geographic area.

A 14-year-old Michigan girl allegedly managed to escape a 22-year-old man's basement after he kidnapped her after meeting her online. Charles Willis has been charged with kidnapping and first-degree criminal sexual conduct, among other charges. According to Northville Township Police, and reported by WWMT, police first responded to a report of a 14-year-old walking alone on 7 Mile Road on April 27 at around 5:30 a.m. As per the police, upon approaching the girl, she revealed to officers that she had escaped a nearby home's basement. She had been held captive for more than 24 hours. Investigations carried out by local police found that the girl and Willis had allegedly met on Snapchat on April 25. The 22-year-old earned the girl's trust little by little. Eventually, Willis allegedly convinced the girl to come to his house. He even paid for the girl's two-hour Uber trip from Barry County, according to police. As reported by The Detroit News, upon arrival, the girl was allegedly instructed by Willis to remain in his basement. Police obtained a search warrant and managed to arrest Charles Willis. AN Essex Police officer and “caring father” manipulated a dozen young girls by using a fake personal to trick his victims into sending him intimate photographs.  In August last year Mark Ling, 39, used his nine-year-old daughter’s phone to download TikTok and Snapchat and speak to 12 girls, who were under the age of 16.  He manipulated them into sending intimate photographs and engaging in sexual activity, while posing as “Jessie” and her fictive boyfriend, Tom.  Ling, who has been jailed for four-and-a-half years, engaged with the victims and engaged them in “loyalty tests”, a type of online challenge which tests faithfulness in relationships.  He used the challenges obtained pictures of his victims naked. One of the victims said she lost trust in people, especially police officers, saying: “The police are supposed to be trusted professionals with good intentions to help and support people – the Essex badge says protect and serve.   “I feel that he has shown the complete opposite to this, and it makes me doubt other police officers.”  Judge Martyn Levett said: “You were in a position of trust, perhaps more than any of us, and despite your good character and the fact these offences did not occur when

An attack victim was stripped naked before being subjected to a 'degrading' attack filmed on Snapchat. Twenty-year-old Josh Workman removed the victim's clothing before punching him in the ribs and head as he lay unconscious. His friend, Reuben Sawicki, 18, filmed the degrading assault and the moment Workman smashed a glass over the man's head. The victim was then dragged to a nearby field and dumped - he had sustained a fractured eye socket and jaw injuries. The defendants then contacted one of the man's relatives, who found him with the serious injuries. On Monday, Workman and Sawicki appeared at Durham Crown Court to be sentenced for assault occasioning actual bodily harm after both pleading guilty to the offence. The court heard that on August 19, last year, police were called after a man was found alone and injured in a field. An investigation was launched and six people were arrested - including Workman and Sawicki. Later, a recording of the brutal attack was discovered on Sawicki's mobile phone. A Snapchat redesign test appears to have stalled after power users seemingly disliked the "simplified" layout. The new version of Snapchat intended "to help new and casual users" navigate the app, according to Snap’s Q1 investor letter , released on April 29. As reported by TechCrunch, the overhauled app removed the Snap Map and Stories tabs. A proposed new three-tab navigation bar focused on chat, the camera and Spotlight (Snapchat’s answer to TikTok.) The report doesn’t specify how long the testing phase went on for or how widespread it was. For now at least, Snap is seemingly reconsidering. "Our most engaged Snapchatters consistently demonstrated a preference for a five-tab layout," the company wrote in that same investor letter. While it does not specifically say it's ending tests of the simplified version, Snap notes it has "begun testing a refined five-tab interface that combines the best of both approaches."
