Pershing Square’s Universal Music Group Bid: What You Need to Know – Billboard

Trending on Billboard Following billionaire hedge fund investor Bill Ackman and his Pershing Square company’s announcement of a non-binding offer to buy Universal Music Group (UMG) on Tuesday (April 7), Ackman and other Pershing executives held a call to address analysts’ and shareholders’ questions. The bid — an effort to revive UMG’s lagging stock price — involves a 9.4 billion euros ($10.85 billion) total cash, or 5.05 euros per share ($5.82), offer to shareholders. Pershing projects that by the end of the year (Dec. 31, 2026), UMG’s stock price will be 30.40 euros ($35) a share, which would value the company at more than $60 billion. However, if shareholders choose to take all cash, they will get 22 euros a share — the equivalent of a nearly 29% premium from the stock’s April 2 closing price of 17.1 euros ($19.73). With about 1.833 billion shares outstanding, if all investors took the cash offer, the company’s valuation would be 40.34 billion euros ($46.5 billion). Below are highlights from the call. Related How likely is it that Pershing’s bid will succeed? Pershing will need the support of two-thirds of shareholders who attend a shareholder meeting for its proposed offer to succeed. (No

Letter to the Editor: Reader suggests expanding our adoptable animal of the day feature

Dear Editor, I’ve looked through Cobb Courier, and would like to talk about the part that allows readers to look at “the dog of the day”, or “the cat of the day”. I like it because it lets people see dogs and cats that need adopting and get information on how to do so. It’s quite the interesting feature, really. But I would suggest that you could include an area off to the side that has other pets, like the ones that couldn’t make “the — of the day”. This would allow more animals that need a good home to be seen, not just the selected animal. Matter of fact, you could just have it lead you to an off-to-the-side page where it’s just a jack ton of animals in need of adoption. This might seem hard, but I have an idea for that as well. I don’t know if you have a programmer that would be willing to do that, so you could insert a poll or ask around students in programming classes at colleges

Melanie Martinez Reveals How Tumblr Could Get Her to Make a New Account – Yahoo

If Tumblr got rid of all of the ads, Melanie Martinez might make a comeback on the platform. Martinez joined Billboard‘s Hannah Dailey for a new episode of In Conversation, a video series that invites the biggest names in music to speak on their creative processes, personal journeys and careers. In the interview, the “Play Date” singer and former Tumblr icon shared how much she misses being on the social media platform (“I love the format, and I love being able to create a layout. It’s such a creative platform”), who she’s listening to (Big Thief and Mitski) and her favorite artist of all time (Fiona Apple). More from Billboard Martinez also opened up extensively about the process of writing her fourth studio album, Hades. Released March 27, Hades introduces listeners to the singer’s newest fantasy world. With the new universe, Martinez decided to kill off her old alter ego, Cry Baby, a character that she first introduced with the album of the same name in 2015. In Cry Baby’s place, Martinez created a new main character, Circle, whose journey listeners follow throughout Hades and who will also be the protagonist of a film Martinez is working on. The new

Can I Opt Out of Having My Doctor Take Notes With AI? – Cobb Courier

This article by Katherine Ruppelt, Cara Anthony, and Blake Farmer, Nashville Public Radio, first appeared in KFF Health News, republished with permission. Katherine Ruppelt, Cara Anthony, and Blake Farmer, Nashville Public Radio, April 7, 2026 LISTEN: AI scribes are changing medical care. Here’s what to know if the technology shows up at your next doctor’s appointment. Family physician Eric Boose has been using an artificial intelligence tool to get back to what he calls “old-fashioned medicine” — talking with patients face-to-face, without having to type into a computer at the same time.  “I can really just sit there and engage and just focus on them and listen,” said Boose, who practices at Cleveland Clinic.  Roughly two years ago, he started using an AI notetaker app during patient visits. The tool listens while he talks with patients and then automatically generates a visit summary based on the conversation. The summary is usually ready within seconds after the appointment ends.  “It’s taking care of all that tedious work of charting and taking notes during the visit,” he said. “It’s just freeing up a lot more time to get that done, and I can get home to my family earlier.”  Nearly a third of physician

Getting $750 a month didn’t end homelessness – but our study shows it still improved the …

by Benjamin F. Henwood, University of Southern California, Can giving homeless people US$750 a month to use any way they choose help them move into long-term housing? I am the director of the University of Southern California Homelessness Policy Research Institute. My research team, in partnership with Miracle Messages, a San Francisco social services nonprofit, set out to answer that question in a study that will be published in an upcoming peer-reviewed issue of Social Work Research. In one of the first randomized studies of basic income for homeless people in the U.S., 103 homeless people living in California received $750 payments every month for a year. Then we compared their housing situations with people who were homeless but did not receive this money. All study participants met the federal definition of literal homelessness. That basically means they either stayed in a homeless shelter or lived on the streets. In 2022, when we began this study, we expected the answer to our question would be “yes.” Beginning with optimistic expectations A similar experiment in Canada with 50 homeless participants showed that providing 7,500 Canadian dollars in cash as a lump

Christians in Gaza Mark a Somber Easter Amid Genocide – Politics Today

G enocide and humanitarian crisis overshadowed what is traditionally a celebration of hope and renewal. With fewer than 1,000 Christians remaining in the Gaza Strip, the community marked its third Easter under the devastating war that began after October 7, 2023. Many families are displaced, and churches that once hosted vibrant celebrations now hold only modest prayer services. Community members described the occasion as one of mourning rather than festivity, honoring those killed while clinging to hope for survival. Basic necessities remain scarce across Gaza, affecting even symbolic traditions. Items like eggs—commonly decorated during Easter—are largely unavailable due to severe shortages. Longstanding restrictions, intensified during the genocide, have limited the flow of food, fuel, and essential goods into the territory, leaving residents struggling to maintain even the simplest customs.

The Cringe Is the Point: Why Your Teenage Obsessions Matter

Recently, my best friend and I were reminiscing about the birth of our friendship during our awkward, middle-school era. Now, well over a decade later, we are still best friends navigating the adult world together from two different cities. Over the years, we have bonded over boy bands, a shared chai addiction, our fan-fiction consumption (which evolved into a love for fantasy novels), a mutual obsession with “The Witcher,” a deep love for Thai food, and, at one point, being fully committed to the emo aesthetic. Since then, we’ve outgrown some of these parts of ourselves, and our friendship has left some of these interests in the past (as well as the questionable wardrobe choices). However, we have noticed a spike in dopamine when we give in to these guilty pleasures. So, as we live lives in our mid-twenties, is the key to happiness actually just fully embracing our inner middle school self? Tumblr, being a teenager, and the age of not GAF! Fourteen-year-old me was unapologetically herself—a true Aquarius by nature—and now I am looking back and taking some notes. Whether it was the vibrantly dyed hair, the skinny jeans, or the horribly applied eyeliner, fourteen-year-old me was onto
