Candidates, tell our readers why they should vote for you, but with two conditions

Posted By: Larry Felton Johnson April 12, 2026 The Cobb County Courier welcomes statements from candidates for local Cobb County offices, statewide offices, or for congressional seats. This includes candidates at all levels who are running for office to represent all or part of Cobb County (city, county, state, and federal). We’ll run them verbatim (making minor grammatical corrections if necessary), with an intro something like this: “This announcement was submitted by (name), candidate for (office). There are only two conditions (and a few preferences on our part). The first condition is to focus on your own goals and accomplishments, rather than the shortcomings you see in your opponent. In other words, we won’t run attack ads posing as candidate mission statements. The second is that no bigotry of any sort be contained in the press release, either explicitly or in dog-whistle form. We prefer that the statements be a minimum of 300 words (as Google prefers for ranking search results). But the article can be as long as you like. We’d also love for you to advertise your campaign with us, but that is not a condition for running your stat. We’ll run your statement whether you advertise with

Prince Estate Settles With Apollonia Over ‘Purple Rain’ Co-Star’s Trademarks – Billboard

Apollonia's lawyer says she's "very happy with the results, and that the parties can continue to honor the legacy of Prince and his musical genius." Prince performs during the "Pepsi Halftime Show" at Super Bowl XLI between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears on February 4, 2007 at Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images Trending on Billboard The Prince estate has reached a settlement with singer Apollonia, ending their dispute over who owns legal rights to the name made famous by the movie Purple Rain. Related After years of fighting, Prince’s estate and Apollonia (born Patty Kotero) both withdrew their dueling trademark cases against each other on Wednesday (April 8). Apollonia’s lawyer, Daniel Cislo, told Billboard that the matter has been confidentially settled. “Apollonia is very happy with the results, and that the parties can continue to honor the legacy of Prince and his musical genius,” said Cislo. “In a time of so much conflict, it is very good to see people coming together to resolve their dispute.” Lawyers for the Prince estate did not return a request for comment on the resolution. The dispute dates back to 2018, two years after Prince’s sudden death by

What Is UMG’s Real Value? Investors & Music Execs Weigh in on Pershing Square Bid

Trending on Billboard While some headlines say Pershing Square’s offer to buy the Universal Music Group (UMG) values the company at $64 billion — which would make it by far the biggest music industry deal ever — if you get into the details of the offer, it looks like Pershing Square’s founder and CEO, Bill Ackman, is trying to buy the major on the cheap. At least that’s the assessment of some Wall Street music investors and music industry executives. For one thing, despite all the headlines touting the more than $60 billion valuation of the convoluted offering, the cash option, if it were available for all shares — which it is not — wouldn’t even be bigger than UMG’s initial public offering. Related Pershing Square’s valuation is based on its forward-looking view that UMG’s stock price will have a projected value of 30.40 euros ($35) per share on Dec. 31, 2026, which would give the deal a valuation of 55.55 billion euros ($64 billion). However, if you read Pershing Square’s letter to the UMG board, it says UMG shareholders may elect to receive all cash or a mix of stock and cash consideration. If shareholders choose to receive all

Pershing Square’s Universal Music Group Bid: What You Need to Know – Billboard

Trending on Billboard Following billionaire hedge fund investor Bill Ackman and his Pershing Square company’s announcement of a non-binding offer to buy Universal Music Group (UMG) on Tuesday (April 7), Ackman and other Pershing executives held a call to address analysts’ and shareholders’ questions. The bid — an effort to revive UMG’s lagging stock price — involves a 9.4 billion euros ($10.85 billion) total cash, or 5.05 euros per share ($5.82), offer to shareholders. Pershing projects that by the end of the year (Dec. 31, 2026), UMG’s stock price will be 30.40 euros ($35) a share, which would value the company at more than $60 billion. However, if shareholders choose to take all cash, they will get 22 euros a share — the equivalent of a nearly 29% premium from the stock’s April 2 closing price of 17.1 euros ($19.73). With about 1.833 billion shares outstanding, if all investors took the cash offer, the company’s valuation would be 40.34 billion euros ($46.5 billion). Below are highlights from the call. Related How likely is it that Pershing’s bid will succeed? Pershing will need the support of two-thirds of shareholders who attend a shareholder meeting for its proposed offer to succeed. (No

Letter to the Editor: Reader suggests expanding our adoptable animal of the day feature

Dear Editor, I’ve looked through Cobb Courier, and would like to talk about the part that allows readers to look at “the dog of the day”, or “the cat of the day”. I like it because it lets people see dogs and cats that need adopting and get information on how to do so. It’s quite the interesting feature, really. But I would suggest that you could include an area off to the side that has other pets, like the ones that couldn’t make “the — of the day”. This would allow more animals that need a good home to be seen, not just the selected animal. Matter of fact, you could just have it lead you to an off-to-the-side page where it’s just a jack ton of animals in need of adoption. This might seem hard, but I have an idea for that as well. I don’t know if you have a programmer that would be willing to do that, so you could insert a poll or ask around students in programming classes at colleges
